Where do I place my speakers? My fireplace is driving me crazy...help!
What's 5.1...home THX...anything to 7.1?
What're some of the things I ought to be looking for in a speaker?
Do I need full range all around?
Timbre matching...important?
I've got issues with my bass, what should I do?
How should I listen?
These questions sound like some that've been asked around here and elsewhere? Maybe you're wondering if there's a better arrangement for your present speakers. Well you might try asking questions and maybe you'll get the right answer. Or just maybe you might find the information below interesting enough to print out and maybe share with others.
The following three pdf downloads were written by Dr. Floyd Toole, who's the VP of acoustical engineering at Harman International. They're part of a lecture series in the The Science of Audio. The downloads are pretty quick even on a dial-up.

The next three, also by Toole provide additional information.
Loudspeakers & Rooms - Working Together
Maximizing Loudspeaker Performance In Rooms
Waves & Modes-A Room Resononance Locator (XLS spreadsheet)

A little off topic, but still interesting is this article by Toole:

Bump.

This thread was linked from another one. I think it's a very interesting read. I DL'd and printed everything for future reference.

So, to the top it goes.
