Can my US Xbox convert region 0 DVD from PAL to NTSC straight out of the box?
No, I believe it needs to be modded.
I'm pretty sure it can.
Yes it does, and damn well to in fact. I have a r0 PAL dvd that plays perfect in the xbox. But I wish I would have bought another region dongle though,I know you only get one chance at that.Hopefully they are coming out with a region defeating device soon .Hope this helps.
Yep, region-free PAL discs play great on the unmodded XBox. Converts it to NTSC.
So, let me just clarify myself to be sure.... I can buy a region 2 PAl disc from the UK, rip it to my harddrive using DVDdecryptor and remove the region protection, then burn a new copy to DVD-R and it will play in the Xbox? thats cool.
Yeah, that should absolutely work.
Robert, ahem, uhh.... I wouldnt talk about those kind of techniques around here. The HTF doesnt allow talk about doing what you described. Be careful or theyll close the thread.
Yes, the PAL version of "The Ring"/Ringu region 0 played perfectly (to my suprise) on my unmodded Xbox.
But I am talking about copying something I own to use on my player. I wouldnt be selling either copy to anyone or giving anyone one of them.
also, I haven't tried, but do DVD-R work on the xbox?
Robert, it's still forbidden here. Just don't mention ripping any further and all should be fine.
there I said it.
