Can someone reccomend a book on the basics? (1 Viewer)

I looked on Amazon, and they have a bunch of books. I want to understand how to set my speakers up when I finally get them.

Are you looking for something on acoustics? OR just speaker placement? Or HT in general? There are several good books on amazon about HT if you search for "Home theater", and the master handbook of acoustics is a good general acoustics book. You can do a lot with speaker placement by trial and error too(doesn't cost anything but time), though the room acoustics is important.

We have a Primer/FAQ that contains more up-to-date info than most books.

In the "Tweeks and Connections" fourm is a thread on how to setup your new reciever.

Speaker placement advice can be found in the Primer and on the Dolby website.

Read through these and then post specific questions and we will be glad to help.

Home Theater Explained This eBook has allot of good beginner info.

The Dolby Guide to Home Theater Sound Also contains a great deal of useful info on room setup. Note that this is just a guide and does not have to be followed for a enjoyable HT if your room or decor does not permit.

One of the best sites available for such matters is www.dolbydigital.com. They have pretty a pretty good FAQ area that defines a whole lot as well as a good knowlegebase.

It is Rotel and B&W biased, but it does cover some of the basics pretty well.

The HT explained book Allen linked to you looks very good. I skimmed a couple small parts, and it covers all the basics pretty well.
