Can someone point me to where I can learn

    about ohms, cross-overs, amps ,pre-amps and whatnot and how these all talk to each other.

    Something that is sort of a "Home Theater....Audio/Visual for dummies" sort thing that talks in plain english.

    I understand that this will not happen overnight but I just want to have a general working knowledge of these things as I grow into this hobby.

    Welcome to the forum Bernie.

    Have you tried reading the ‘Read This First’ thread right at the top of the Basics area? Vince has provided some links to a lot of very valuable documentation. Read this and you will know more than 90% of the people who have some type of home theater.

    As Lew suggested, one of the main things in the "read this first" is the FAQ and PRIMER, the link is in my sig.

    In the primer you will find some articles like:

    And many more.
