Can someone identify this Hammer film and tell me if it's on DVD

When I was a kid I remember an English horror film (Hammer I presume) that starred Christopher Lee. I remember him being handcuffed on a train and he had to cut off his hand to escape. Then, I think, he used to put attachments on his arm and kill people. I saw this on TV in the early 1970's so mymemory is quite hazy.

This courtesy of my Hammer-expert boss:

"It's not a Hammer film, actually. It's called 'Doctor Terror's House of Horrors' and you'll find it on region 2 release in the 'Amicus Colelction'"

    Hope that helps you.

The movie you're thinking of wouldn't be "Chamber of Horrors," would it?

It wasn't a Hammer film, and it didn't star Chris Lee, but it did have a guy who cut his hand off.

I remember watching this on the "Friday Nightmare" late at night as a kid. One thing I distinctly recall is that they did this "Fright Flash" and "Horror Horn" before something scary would happen -- within the movie, and not something my local TV station added.

It was Patrick O'Neal, and you're right, it was Chamber of Horrors. I also saw it in the very early 70s and thought it was suitably macabre, and yes, very Hammer-like (though I didn't know what Hammer was back then!).

Thanks guys. It was Chamber of Horrors. (I knew it also had something to do with a House of Wax-type plot). I saw it on TV in 1972 (or before) so my memory was hazy. I guess over time I turned it into a Hammer film.

CHAMBER OF HORRORS used the gimmick of the "Fear Flasher" and the "Horror Horn" which went off before each murder.

The TV prints usually included the opening which warned the audience to:

TURN AWAY WHEN YOU HEAR THE FEAR FLASHER!

COVER YOUR EARS WHEN YOU HEAR THE HORROR HORN!

Love that flick. It was actually made for TV, but relased to theatres instead.
