I currently have a Sony SAWM-40 and want to replace it with either a VTF-2 or even better, SVS 25-31. ALso, my current HK AVP1/Technics decoder is dated and no 5.1 input for my JVC 723 DVD-A player. I've been looking at the HK SIg 2.0 specials around and like what I see. For all about the same cost (~$500) What's my best option (right now) to see the most improvement? New sub or better preamp? I have a HK 5800 along with Def Tech BP 30's...thanks!

    One vote for the Pre-amp.

You have a sub, and the electronics ARE out of date.

Get the SV as soon as possible, though, afterwards.

    Good Luck!

    What Sig specials?

Do you have Dolby Digital and DTS capability right now? If so, go for the sub. If not, I might still go for the sub, but an argument can be made for the preamp.

As much as I'd love to see you upgrade the sub, the preamp seems to be the way to go. I'd look at Denon, Onkyo, and Outlaw before HK but that is personal preference. Used to have an AVR-40 that was built like a tank and perfomed well but HKs quality control went downhill since then. Enjoy!
