I have a 4 year-old Pioneer plasma that one day made an audible "pop" and the display will no longer light up at all. It's been sitting unused for months now as I replaced it with a new one. How likely is it that a plasma can be repaired for a reasonable charge?

(What kills me is that I payed $9,000 CAD for it and can now replace it for less than 1/3 the price!)

We had a 6.5 year old Pioneer plasma that I really don't want to know what we paid for it - it was a 52" or so in 2000! - that abruptly, drew enough current to trip a 20amp breaker (by itself.) I kind of suspect it also went "pop!" but we weren't around to witness it. We dissected it on the shop floor, and while we all suspected it was in the power supply board, we couldn't find any obvious, visual signs.
