Can I or can't I? Just don't like this woody design.

As long as you remove the drivers and binding posts first won't hurt any thing. Binding posts you might get away with just taping over, but I wouldn't want to try and tape over the drivers, would be simpler to just remove them.

Make sure you sand them first as well. If there's some sort of poly, varnish, lacquer, etc. on the cabinets then paint won't stick very well.
