I have the opportunity to buy a rel stratta III for 750$ new or an HSU VTF-2 for $400 new. Someone told me the HSU will sound better even though it costs less.what do you think. it will mostly be for music.

The REL has a nice crossover and (IMO) looks better. Subjectively, I preferred the REL at low volume levels. At high volume levels (where the Hsu was playing comfortably) the REL's lack of output quickly became apparent. IMO, for $700 an Adire Dharman, Hsu VTF-3, or SVS would be your best bet...

For music it is not a contest. The Rel is a much better choice. In a large room at high volume for theater use it may not have the output of some of the other choices available. $750 is a steal. It retails for $1,750 in black.

Another vote for the REL. If it's just for HT I would make a sub encloser and get a raw driver for less money. The Rel's are very musical.
