I am going to buy a mini dv camcorder. I am looking at the sony dcr-hc40 and the dcr-hc85. I was wondering the 40 has 1.0 mp and the 85 has a 2.1. My question is going from 1.0 mp to 2.1 worth 400 dollars. I know that lines of resolution is only 10 more. But the digital camera part will take better pictures but with the 400 bucks I could get a stand alone digital camera thats better than 2.1. Any help is appreciated.

You've got it. Still pictures from any camcorder will be inferior to pics from even the cheapest digital camera. A $400 camera will blow any camcorder stills out of the water.
