My dad has a Hitachi VM-E58A camcorder, its probably ten years old, but we cannot figure out how to, after recording something, play the tape to show on the television. The tapes are not even half the size of a regular VHS tape, so we cannot play it in a VCR, but it comes with an adapter.

The adapter plugs into the camcorder, and has a little box that has an "out to tv" and an "in from ant" along with a switch to change from channel 3 to channel 4. The cable it came with needs to be hooked into the back of the TV, so we just bought a video adapter that can allow for connection into the front of the TV where the red, white and yellow RCA cables go. The lady at RAdio Shack said that you wont have sound, but you plug it into the video jack on the tv, and voila.

We tried all of this, but there is no picture. My question is, how do we hook this up to get a picture on the TV?? We have the cable hooked currently on the adapter "out to TV" and the other end contains the video adapter and this is plugged into the front of the TV, the yellow "video" connection. Thanks for any information you can give us.

Based on this info, I am assuming that you need to connect the "out to TV" to the antenna input of your TV with a RG6 coaxial patch cable (available at Radio Shack or any other electronic retailer). Then set your TV channel to match the switch setting on the box -- channel 3 or 4.

You should get both video and audio using this technique.

The adapter that plugs into the camcorder, the plug that says "out to TV", is that a screw-on "F" type coax connector? If so, just run a coax line straight to the antenna input on the back of the TV, and change the channel on the TV to channel 3 or 4, depending on what you have the switch set to. Play the tape and you should be set, maybe after hitting a "TV/VCR" button on the adapter. If you need to do this a lot just get a cheap A/B switch and put it on the back of the TV, hook the camcorder adapter to one side and the regular antenna/CATV cable to the other. The camcorder adapter itself may be able to function as the switch, hook the regular cable up to the "in from ant", look for a TV/VCR type switch.

I don't think Radio Shack gave you the right type of box; they likely gave you an RF modulator that converts baseband video to RF, not the other way around. You won't be able to connect to the front AV inputs of the TV, without a tuning device in between. (e.g. plug into a VCR tuned to channel 3/4 as above, AV outputs to TV).
