In a attempt to determine if the new Yamaha RXV1200, 2200, & 3200 all used the same circuitry for the preamp section of their receivers, I called them and asked. They said that those three receivers are all the same but the amplifier section varies. I was thinking that the entire 3200 was a build above the 1200 & 2200 but apparently not. Do you think the CSR was correct?

I believe what they said since they all use the same 938 chip for all the decoding.

I believe the 3200 has 8 channel power (2 front effects channels)and more DSPs which incorporate these.

Otherwise the 1200 and 2200 only vary by power output and maybe the amount of DSP programs.

I have the 1200 and it sounds amazing in 5.1/6.1 and the 2 channel music is very accurate with my speakers (JBL N38 mains), not noticably bright or overly warm.

I am very pleased with it overall.

the 1200 is missing one very important(?) surround mode that the 2200 has and I for one am confused...is it for licencing reasons that Yamaha doesn't list the 1200 as having dd 6.1 matrix(ex?)...If the chipsets are the same then why would they be differant?...inquiring minds want to know.
