when setting up your surruonds if left speeker is 5'from listning area and right is 8'. is there any recievers that you can set up timeing for each speaker or say make one play louder than the other so they would hit the sweet spot at the same time. and is there any formula or way to tell wich sub would be to small or to large for the room size?

All receivers will allow you to set delays and channel levels.

Most receivers now even give you the settings in feet and calculate the delays for you (old ones just gave you ms delay settings).

So any modern receiver should do both things you seek, as both are part of dolby spec.

(Having a calibration disc and meter will help you balance all the channeles to even-- and receiver dlay times are either set in feet or milliseconds.)
