Cable Guy,,highly Overlooked (1 Viewer)

I dunno about the rest of the popular public,but when people talk about some of the funniest films of the past years,,I always mention Cable Guy,,I loved it when it came out,and hardly anyone liked it. I thought Jims performance was Great,it worked perfectly. I love so many scenes in that film,Owen Wilson in the bathroom, with Jim scatting on him, God Im laughing thinking about it,,I know it has its fan base,,But I dont understand why more people didnt love it when it came out,,They were like, "it was dark",,doesnt mean it wasnt funny. Man I would love to see a sp ed dvd of it,,umm ummmm.. anyone else share my sentiments on this film, thoughts anyone.

I'm sort of indifferent to this movie but it definitely has it's moments:

:star: Eric Roberts hamming it up in that made for TV movie

It's at least entertaining and above average, especially for those with a twisted sense of humor.

I've always thought Carrey got a bum rap for this movie for no reason. It was great. And now that people have seen him in more serious roles they tend to enjoy Cable Guy that much more. Up to that point we were so used to crazy Carrey. Sure he is still crazy in this movie, but it goes deeper than that.

My favorite scene is when he gets punched and says "My lisp is gone" Gets punched again. "You basptard."

hehe Yes Twisted sense of humor has always been me,hehe thoes are all great scenes,,Everything at Medievil Times was great,especially for anyone whos ever been there,,its so stupid,,just like in the movie,,and its great,cause i went there after Cable Guy,and was able to reinact several of the moments,hehe cept,for the battle scenes,Do'h,now that would have been fun,,The basketball scene is great,,I play basketball everyweek with some people like that,and I occasionally have to warm up cause "I dont wanna pull a hammy". Ah yes,,,I think Ben Stiller did a great job.

yeah I think that is true,,it wasnt Jim talking with his butt,so people were confused a bit,as to how to take it,,but I blame the audiences for that,I thought it was a well played hilarious role.I remember several of my friends who loved him ,didnt like Cable Guy at all,and they said it was to dark,and I laughed at them and called them children,and now most of them love it,I just dont think they understood it at first,they didnt understand why he wasnt going nuts all the time on the screen. Now that there a little older,they think its hilarious. That may also be a part of the problem,,is that alot of the people who were seeing his stuff at the time were younger,and Cable Guy was more adult as far as the jokes. Not that all his other films before were kids shows,but the jokes werent so out and out. if that makes any sense at all.

You can tell this movie is a work of fiction however, because a real cable guy would never care that much about his job.

I love and always have loved the Cable Guy. Probably the peak of Jim's comedic movie career. I'll never forget his acceptance speech for best villan at the MTV Movie Awards
"When I made this everybody said 'Oooh it's dark. Not the usual Jim Carrey' (In the most sarcastic voice possible) BUT I'M NOT BITTER. No, I'll accept this award but only as a reminder that I am indeed ONE BAD MOTHERF***ER."

Yeah I remember when he said that at the speech,,great,,I loved all his speeches,,I remember a few years ago,at the MTV movie awards,he was dressed as a hippie/drifter/member of Steely Dan, and he was acting all laid back,and slightly high,,and he said something like,,Man theres alot of Fine Pu**y in this room right now,and I remember them showing the audience reaction specifically Catherine Zeta Jones reaction,,everyone was dying. and I think he was hitting on whoever it was who gave him the award,and I think he like kissed her,was it like Alicia Silverstone or someone like that? cant remember,,but I remember watching and falling over laughing. and with what you said Dan,,my mom hated every one of jims movies until Cable Guy,and it broke her of her hate streak,even though it wasnt totally broken til Truman Show,,now she likes him. I think Cable Guy is a film that can age very well,better than others of his early films,,I think it will age better than Say,,The Mask,even though I liked the Mask.

I don't see why nobody liked the Cable Guy. I think it's hilarious. The best part has to be either the Porno Password scene or when the tape of Steven insulting his boss gets shown on all the computers at work, genius. It's got a killer soundtrack too. I've always had twisted sense of humor so that's probably why I like it so much.

I consider myself a Cable Guy connoisseur. I've seen the movie (literally) hundreds of times.

So naturally, I wanted to add my two cents.

I DO think its a fairly good movie, and I DO have a special place in my heart for it (obviously), but I think the movie is, at best, slightly above average.

Granted it DOES have a lot of great moments, but I think its popularity will always be a bit of a cult phenomena.

That nonwithstanding, I still love the movie. Its one of those curio movies that I enjoy immensely, despite considerable flaws.

I loved the soundtrack too -- In fact, I purchased it during my soundtrack binge circa 1998. Plenty of good songs.

Well I mean,I view it as a great Comedy,but Im not gonna say its one of the best movies ever made,HA HA ,but from the past 10 years,I think its one of the funniest movies ive seen.As far as Comedys go,I rate it very high,as far as a film,I mean not very,,but it has a deepness to it that worked for me. I just think it has recieved a bum rap,and deserves quite a bit more,,more so than ALOT of movies that get good reviews for being "funny". But at any rate,I really like this movie,and is there some sort of growing movement for a special edition dvd,? some list to sign to beg for it? Anything at all,I wanna see a SP ED . If there isnt a movement,then I would like to start one,,I mean cripes,if Windtalkers can get a 3 disc special edition,Cable Guy deserves at least a 2 disc,,shoot id be happy with a 1 disc,,Anything extra. goodtimes

This movie I rank right beside Neighbors as a "dark comedy". Actually I see alot of parallels between it and scenes in Neighbors (Belushi and Ackroyd). Both have their place as very funny moments even if the overall movie doesn't rank that high. Any idea if Neighbors will ever make it on dvd?
