Thanks, Sam & Dave for the insight and advice. Much appreciated. I'll wait it out and see what happens.

Like I said, in an ordinary situation, I'd ride out the 6 until it developed issues. But if Apple ends support, it "allows" me to push the envelope (in my own mind) and upgrade to a newer, shinier phone sooner. Yay!

^ Exactly. You should wait a month so you can maximally push the envelope of your upcoming purchase! :D

Rumors via a case manufacturer cites that Apple may be introducing a stylus for this year's phone.

And while I know this was the number one thing Jobs was against, I think it's a great feature. I used to have a Galaxy Note and taking handwritten notes and having them transposed to text was so much easier and faster than typing.

What Jobs was against was needing a stylus for everything - for running the OS itself.

Using it for specific things that you choose to use it for, like drawing or note-taking, is different.

    Double Exactly

It was a reaction to the PDAs of the day, the Palm and maybe even the Newton. It wasn't a categorical rejection of styluses for any purpose ever.

I told my wife last night we need to sort out the cost and schedule for some home improvements we’re considering, because in a month Apple is opening up my wallet and emptying it out.

Her response was not encouraging... :)

New iPad Pro is hopeful for me. Assuming I do that, not sure if I order on launch or wait for holidays.

The rumored delineation of iphones into XR and Pro lines isn’t encouraging to me and feels like I should keep my 8+ a third year until 2020. But rumors of names aren’t the basis for good decisions. So I look forward to Sep 10 announcements.

And finally...Apple Watch S5 I’m thinking is my wife’s Christmas present.

In a month, current events might make the phone cost more, even if it’s no longer a current model. :(

If you want a new phone and believe that prices are going to jump significantly in a month, then you should buy now for your own peace of mind.

I don’t think there will be tariff caused price jumps in Apple products through at least early next year. I’m not upgrading anything until the Sep 10 announcements, at the earliest. My iPhone upgrades might wait until next year.

I’m waiting. I’m looking to lower my bill and upgrade. It looked like I could do that with Sprint for the current XR. Maybe that XR will drop in price or I can do it with the new phones.

My sense is that after the new-phone launch promotions, there's another wave of carrier promotions after christmas to try and stimulate post-holiday / early new year sales.

If you're really wanting to save money and your phone and data needs are more modest, there's the paygo services like tracfone. I have a friend or two that swear by them. Buy a phone. Pay for a little service. Save lots of money.

Johnny - I don’t know how Sprint service is in Maumelle but it got so bad in downtown Little Rock about 5 years ago that I got corporate approval to switch my work phone to Verizon. This year, corporate decided we needed to switch from Verizon to AT&T and now my work phone has no signal at home. For comparison, my personal Verizon phone has full signal at home.

There is a Sprint store in Maumelle, I’ll be sure to check the signal they get. We are currently on ATT and never had a problem with the signal.

Staples has some nice iHome wireless chargers in their clearance section right now. I got a couple for Peg's new XR.

And...I decided to pick up a few for me, too! So now I guess I'm committed to that upcoming purchase...whenever it makes best sense.

Are the online or in store only? I can’t find them online.

    Johnny,

You still have a bit of time before you get your new phone.

I'm gonna give you a great tip...

    Go to 9to5toys.com

Subscribe to their daily newsletter. Sometimes you will get it twice a day in your mailbox.

It's your best insight into Amazon (and other online stores) deals.

I see wireless charger deals advertised at least once or twice a week. Anker is always selling their wireless charger for under $20. Personally, I like Mophie and if you can find it for $20 on sale -- and it does happen -- that is the deal of a lifetime.

I will keep an eye out on wireless charger deals for you over the next few weeks. But do go to that site and subscribe to their newsletter.
