Do The Time Warp Again When The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Arrives in Theaters and on Blu-ray™ in 4K Ultra HD™ Later This Year!

BURBANK, CA (April 30, 2025) - This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the genre-defying cult classic that transformed midnight cinema and inspired a global phenomenon. First introduced to audiences in 1975, the film quickly became more than just a movie - it sparked a movement.

Based on the musical play by Richard O’Brien - with a screenplay by O’Brien and director Jim Sharman, and produced by Lou Adler and Michael White - The Rocky Horror Picture Show broke the mold with its unforgettable characters, flamboyant costumes, and audacious rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack. Through its legendary late-night screenings, complete with shadow casts, fan costumes, and interactive rituals, the film pioneered a new kind of audience participation that redefined the moviegoing experience. Today, with weekly screenings around the world, The Rocky Horror Picture Show continues to make history as the longest-running theatrical release of all time.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, a newly restored and remastered version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be unleashed in breathtaking 4K Ultra HD, and crowned by the debut of a dazzling new anniversary logo.

Overseen by the Walt Disney Studios Restoration team, the 10-month project included a meticulous digital scan and preservation process that ensures every frame of the cult classic is presented with unprecedented clarity and vibrancy. The restoration also features a newly mixed Dolby Atmos audio track, bringing enhanced depth and dimension to the film’s iconic soundtrack. For purists and longtime fans, the original mono audio has been fully restored as well - allowing audiences to experience the film exactly as it was heard when it first premiered five decades ago.

“It’s a privilege to help preserve the legacy of a film that has meant so much to so many,” says Kevin Schaeffer, Director of Restoration & Library Management. “Bringing The Rocky Horror Picture Show to life in 4K allows us to honor its bold, genre-defying spirit and ensure that audiences - both longtime fans and first-time viewers - can experience it as it was originally intended, with stunning picture and sound.”

"When The Rocky Horror Picture Show was first released, no one thought it would be around very long let alone...50 years,” says producer Lou Adler. “What began as a small, rebellious project has become a global celebration of individuality, community, and creative freedom. This anniversary is a tribute to the fans who kept it alive and kicking all these years.”

Watch for future announcements on the 50th anniversary celebrations for The Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Considering the promised upcoming releases, Disney made a wise decision to release this movie in 4K.

A lot of fans, such as myself, are excited

Of course, we don’t know whether Disney will offer a variety of audio options, including Mono, 5.1, and Atmos, or if a participation track will be included. (Mono, 5.1, and Atmos) and whether a participation track will be present.

As someone who owns this on digital, I must admit that I eagerly anticipate the upgrade to that format.

But it's got a dazzling new anniversary logo!

I may be making something out of nothing...

But I hope Disney isn't going to mess with the current logo and rock fanfare that this movie is known for.

Given that this is now Twentieth Century Studios, who knows what Disney might do to alter the original?

I don't care if they add their logo before the start of the movie, but don't mess with the original logo.

I was really making that previous post in jest (it's funnier if you read it in Waylon Smithers' voice).

Having said that - on an unrelated note - I wonder when Disney is going to release the UHD Blu-rays of Pinocchio and Fantasia that were rumored to be coming after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Fantasia has always been riding strong in the rumor mill. I suspect TRON will be released on 4k once the new film hits theaters. That was also rumored.

Disney hasn't changed the Fox logo on the first six Star Wars movies so I imagine that Rocky Horror will stay the same too.

I seem to remember hearing about those theater participation screenings at the Theater Of The Living Arts (commonly known as the TLA) in Philly. I kind of wish I saw one of those in person.

What about the Original Theatrical Version (before the film was extended and released in Stereo in 1990 by CBS/Fox Video)

A: Do you believe the Mono Mix applies for the both versions, like the 2010 Fox BD?
B: Do you accept the Mono mix from the 2010 BD a downmix of the 7.1 mix or do you think it is an OG mix?

Regardless, we'll see If their 4K UHD Mono Mix is going to be Lossless, when get an official announcement.

Who says Disney does not restore and release catalog titles? ;)
Slowly but surely, that is?

Have a heart of film purism or authenticity (the Fox library is on Bob Iger's hands and are his problems [since the buyout])

Yeah, Disney is taking a very slow and cautious approach at this point.

It's not like they are churning out classic titles.

It's more like let's see how these sell and base future decisions on that.

ROCKY HORROR was completely unexpected, so I hope we see more surprises like that.

From 1983 - 1988 the 8th Street Playhouse in New York City was my home away from home.

I hope Disney doesn't muck this release up.
