Out of my real life interactions with people, Solo is the only one of the new Star Wars movies where I have yet to encounter anyone who said they didn't like it. Not like that's some kind of proof that it's a beloved movie but I just find it funny that the 'bomb' is the one has the best track record in my experience.

I doubt that very much. The change in directors was in my opinion the least of Solo’s problems.

Still I’ll be buying both the 4K and 3D versions. :D

I really liked this movie! I’ll buy it but will wait a while. Either for price or it may even end up on my Christmas list.

I still need to pick up the soundtrack as well.

On the other hand, how many people say they loved "Solo"?

While the other recent "SW" movies have plenty of detractors, they also have lots of people who thought they were great.

"Solo" seems to be the "lukewarm water" of the franchise: few hate it, but few love it, either...

Fair enough but I don't think it's really a problem that a movie is merely liked either.

Objectively, no, but in this case, I think the "meh" response did hurt "Solo". It already had bad publicity and the "it was okay" reactions harmed it, I think.

If more people had raved about it, it might've been able to overcome the negativity, but since so many people seemed to think it was just "decent", it didn't get a spike...

Better movie than what the press and so-called "fans" gave it credit for. By press, I'm not referring to reviews specifically, but the barrage of bad word of mouth from so-called "sources" that hadn't even seen the movie yet.

Agreed. It was a good movie.

The bar in entertainment seems to be so high that nothing can live up to it these days.

That's the thing about the appreciation of film, music, art, etc. - it's completely subjective.

I might maybe rent this one, but that's it. I wasn't interested from the start in "Solo" because I don't like "Young (name your favorite character)" movies and books. "Rogue One" was great because it had new characters and fit snugly into what had gone before. Anyone playing Han Solo has to fight the comparison with Harrison Ford, and that's a losing fight because we've already seen the young version of Harrison Ford. (BTW, I also have no use for "reboots", which means I've given up on James Bond and all the new cast "Star Trek" films since the first one. What with old characters suddenly turning up in entirely different forms, ripoffs of the Spock death scene, and Nimoy Spock bouncing around the galaxy, the last ST was just a mess.

    I hear you.

Solo was a good movie. I think I went in with lower expectations than everyone else.

I’ll pick it up on UHd blu ray. Just wish price points in entertainment would not continue to increase. $25-30 is steep..

Maybe solo will be a Black Friday title too??

I expect the likelihood of that is extremely high. If I get it for completion, it will probably be then.

Just the fine print at the bottom on the back. They use the Lucasfilm logo elsewhere.

I had little desire to see this in the theater, and it had nothing to do with the director switch, or that I can't stand the thought of someone else playing Solo.

Rather, my initial misgiving, which I will have to work to overcome in order to give this a chance on home video, is that Ehrenreich was relatively close to Ford's age when he portrayed the same character in 1977. Ford was 34 at the time of filming Star Wars, and Ehrenreich was 26-27 when filming Solo. I know I didn't look identical when I was those two ages, but the 27 year old me looked a lot like the 34 year old me. I'd guess that holds true for most of us.

I would have gone for the exact same story, if Han were cast younger, like in his late teens. I could have suspended my disbelief in much the same way I did for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where I thoroughly enjoyed River's portrayal of a young Indy (another beloved Ford character).

As time goes on, I'll probably get over my hangup and get around to watching Solo.

People can accept multiple actors in other roles - James Bond, for instance - so I don't see why it's such a big deal here.

    Sort of. Kinda. ;)

It's simply subjective opinion of course. Not everyone's is going to match yours, and Han Solo is not James Bond. ;)

Count me among those that really enjoyed Solo. Not the best Star Wars of the bunch, but not the worst either. Loved the backstory showing how Han and Chewie met, how Han won the Millennium Falcon from Lando, and how they made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. Just a fun time at the movies. Incidentally, my wife isn't a huge Star Wars fan, but really enjoyed watching it as well. Clearly, whether you enjoy it or not is subjective.
