Huh. Hopefully this isn't going to be another Inside Out 2 situation where the only 4K option is a super expensive steel book. I ended up settling for the Blu-Ray option on that one.

It is. This is the only 4K option, at least in the US. The UK got a standard case for Inside Out 2 so hopefully the same thing here as well.

inside out 2 never received a usa plastic case packaging and the cheapest i've seen inside out 2 steelbook is ~$38 from deepdiscount.

Aren't steelbooks supposed to look nice?

That cover art is really ugly.

That seems to be the new standard operating procedure on Disney films for a couple of years now. The Best Buy steelbook was the only 4K edition widely available for Strange World, while a standard case 4K version was available through the Disney Movie Club. Elemental and the bad Little Mermaid remake had a similar situation with the 4K only being offered through a few different store exclusives and a standard version via the club. Now that the club is gone, and retailer exclusives seem to be fewer and far between, steelbook only 4K seems to be the way they are going with these kinds of releases.

Well I think Steelbook art is always ugly. Blazing Saddles, anyone?

Of course, for Moana, I stupidly snubbed the BestBuy Steelbook exclusive when it was on clearance for 10 bucks not so long ago. So now I'll never have a matching pair. That is, IF I get Moana II. Did anyone see it? I heard it was just a stitched together feature made out of tv episodes that never aired...

The original Moana had a very nice one using the original poster artwork.

Yes. I wrote comments about it in the corresponding thread in the movies forum. Here's the link to that thread: https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/moana-2-disney-animation-2024.381780/

It's a little bit more complicated than that. It was originally ordered to be a Disney+ series, but was upgraded to a theatrical feature and completed as such. It's not like the TV episodes were completed and sitting there and edited together after the fact. Disney made the change during production. I don't think the sequel is very good, but it could have been worse.

The main difference here for me is the pricing. Every 4k release before Inside Out 2 was priced normally for a UHD even if steelbook was the only option. Inside out 2 steelbook remained ludicrously priced. I really hope this isn't the new standard pattern for Disney.
