That's what I was thinking. I missed the apparent outrage.

That makes two of us. I saw the “original” version multiple times in childhood and no one in my family was outraged over that scene (then again, by the time the film premiered, I was smart enough to know not to do something like that).

On another note, I have to say that, compared to what Disney usually applies to their animated films, that cover art looks lovely.

The most ridiculous thing about this change is that the elimination of the dryer means Lilo and Nani no longer have a dryer in their laundry room next to the washer. What does Nani do to dry clothes? Leave every item of clothing they own out to dry?

They live in Hawaii, they hang their clothes to dry outside on a clothes line. When I lived there in the late 90's, that's what was done even if you had a washer and dryer.

Okay, but it still looks weird to have a washer next to a pizza box rather than a dryer.

Of all the different types of censorship Disney can or has imposed onto its classic films, changing this dryer into a table is so innocuous it hardly seems worth getting riled up about.

Maybe there's hope. The HD streaming version I purchased from iTunes/Apple TV about three years ago still has the dryer scene in it.

Anyone care to guess if this is another exclusive, limited pressing steelbook thanks to Sony producing Disney's discs? If it is, you best get it when you can because it won't get released again.

Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits says it is not a steelbook.

Also, I don't think Disney's recent tendency toward steelbooks can be blamed on Sony. Sony still puts out their own stuff in regular editions. I think that's just the strategy Disney wants to use now.

I had previously posted that the HD streaming version I purchased from iTunes/Apple TV about three years ago still had the dryer scene in it. It recently upgraded to 4K, and the dryer has been replaced with the stupid pizza oven!

I read in a private forum, that the Nordic blu-ray release, has the scene intact!

The YouTube algorithm just showed me this 20th anniversary interview with Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois from June 2022. It's old now, but I'd never seen it before.

The whole discussion is really good, and if you're a fan I recommend listening to the whole thing. But I wanted to bump this thread because at about the 46 or 47 minute mark, they address the dryer vs. pizza box issue.

I didn't know that this was actually done by the original crew when the film was being made. I still prefer the version with the dryer and I'm glad that I have the film on disc with the dryer in it. But that does make the change less annoying to me personally than Disney unilaterally doing film revisionism years after the fact. Watch the video for details.
