Is this the original theatrical version, or the modified version? A few years back on Disney+, they changed the scene featuring Lilo hiding inside of a dryer, instead, she's now hiding in a commode behind a pizza box.

It's not a toilet on Disney+, it's a table next to washing machine. A toilet next to a washing machine is just wrong on every level imaginable.

Yes, that makes total sense. I was just quoting Disney+ description of the scene change, since I don't subscribe to the channel, but my question still remains, will it be the original film we worked on, or the Disney+ version?

The press release doesn't mention anything about theatrical or Disney+ cuts

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am pretty sure the new release will be the modified version.

I know this because I bought a new Blu-ray copy earlier this year and found the edited pizza box version. This is the version that is currently available to buy from Amazon if you place a new order. It seems like the original version was quietly discontinued and replaced with the pizza box version without many people noticing.

Because I was not willing to accept that, I then had to go to eBay to track down the original version from a previous owner who sold it to me.

Hold on to your original DVD's folks

This is so sad. Disney has always been and continues to be the biggest modifier of their content.

Any possible explanation for why that scene with the dryer had to be modified?

The film has been out since 2002 with its original form and I've never heard any news of any actual kids playing in the dryer because of it. But, yes, the studio suddenly decided to change this when Disney+ launched in 2019.

The kids who watched it with the dryer from 2002-18 must be traumatized.

With streaming, kids can now watch things easier than before and if kids decided to reenact what they saw in the movie, Disney would get sued, so by changing it they avoid any future lawsuits.

Does that mean you have to buy multiple copies from various stores get all the features?
None of the bonus features listed here are new. They're all ported over from DVD anyway.

It appears tht the only thing new here will be the 4K transfer itself.

The most extensive release for Lilo & Stitch was the 2-Disc Big Wave Edition DVD released in 2009.

Although Disney was releasing new films on Blu-ray in 2009, there was no Blu-ray of Lilo & Stitch until 2013. The original Blu-ray release from 2013 had nothing whatsoever on the Blu-ray disc itself. It contains only Disc 1 of the Big Wave Edition as a DVD inside the package. The supplements from disc 2, including a feature-length documentary which is one of the best things Disney ever produced, are not included at all. But it does feature the original version of the film, complete with Lilo hiding in the dryer, in HD.

The current Blu-ray release was issued in 2022. You can see in the right corner of the back cover where it says "2022 Blu-ray release." This is the edited version with the pizza box. It adds the bonus features from Disc 1 of the Big Wave Edition DVD to the Blu-ray disc itself. These are the same bonus features as listed in the press release for the new one, so I'm pretty sure the included Blu-ray will be the same.

I know this because I actually bought the current edition from Amazon in February. I anticipated that there might be a new release to tie-in with the remake. It looks like I was correct about that. I wanted to make sure I got the one with the dryer because I expected any new release would have the pizza box.

The thing I wasn't aware of was that the pizza box version had already been released physically in 2022. I discovered this while watching the movie and didn't notice the 2022 date on the packaging until afterwards.

At that point, I returned the new release to Amazon. Then I went to eBay and paid more money to a re-seller in order to get the original Blu-ray from 2013. Dealing with this was my punishment for not having upgraded Lilo & Stitch to Blu-ray earlier in its life cycle before, I guess. I was waiting to see if they would reissue it without the direct-to-video cheapquel on the same disc. Now, the 4K release will not have the cheapquel. But it will have the pizza box. So I've decided that the irritation of owning the cheapquel is less bad than having the edited version with the pizza box.

Disney has not released any new supplements for Lilo & Stitch since the Big Wave Edition DVD in 2009. That set was one of their most loaded ever. I don't think there is any reason to expect new bonus features with the 4K release.

Fans who want to have everything should keep the Big Wave Edition DVD for disc 2 and find the original 2013 Blu-ray Disc to get the original unedited version with the dryer in HD. Of course, I have not actually seen the UHD version yet, but I would be shocked if it is anything other than the pizza box version that is already included on the current Blu-ray.

It's not always based on what has happened, bt what can happen. If some kid watched Lilo, then hid in a dryer and died,, it's entirely possible Disney could be sued for millions. With the film more widely available than ever on Disney+, their legal team made the decision to avoid any potential future liability by changing the scene.
