BURBANK, CA (June 20, 2024)
– The fate of the world is at stake when 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes arrives to digital retailers (Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home) on July 9 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on August 27. Director Wes Ball’s stunning new entry into the Planet of the Apes series has been heralded by critics as “a jaw-dropping spectacle” (Matt Neglia, Next Big Picture) and “a visual masterpiece” (Mark Hughes, Forbes). It is Certified-Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes™ and has thrilled audiences worldwide, becoming one of the biggest global box office successes of the year and marking the beginning of a new era for the epic Planet of the Apes franchise.

Set generations after Caesar’s reign in a world where apes are the dominant species, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes follows an ape named Noa and a human named Mae as they emerge to define the future of how apes and humans will coexist.

Fans can delve deeper into the franchise on 4K UHD editions with “Inside the Lens: The Raw Cut,” a full-length alternative cut with a split-screen comparison between the final cut of the film and a version with unfinished VFX with optional audio commentary by director Wes Ball, editor Dan Zimmerman and VFX supervisor Erik Winquist. The never-before-seen alternate cut gives fans a unique opportunity to see the actors’ performances before the visual effects were completed.

The 4K UHD also arrives in a collectible limited edition SteelBook® with custom artwork by artist Dylan Cole. Finally, fans will have a chance to bring home the entire Planet of the Apes saga on Digital at select retailers. A special Planet of the Apes 10 film bundle will be available for $100 SRP.

Instant preorder for this one. Really enjoyed it. Not sure if I'll do 4K or stick with Blu-ray. Modern films shot on digital look good enough in 1080p IMO.

So does the digital version contain the extended cut? Can't tell from the wording.

You mean the "raw cut" comparison without FX? It's listed only under the physical spec, so I think it's only a bonus feature on disc.

There may be a few typos on this press release.

This is obviously a typo:
Digital Code + SteelBook Packaging
That is likely supposed to say something more akin to "Blu-ray + Digital Code in Steelbook packaging."

The listing that the UHD disc will be a BD66 is something I really hope is a typo, since the running time is 145 minutes. Disney was transitioning to BD100's for films longer than 2 1/2 hours (the Cameron films, Indiana Jones 5, and the Disney+ TV season sets) before they handed their physical media business to Sony.

I look forward to getting this. The movie is great. But good grief; the artwork for the Blu-ray single looks awful. The 4K artwork is definitely better.

I went to see this movie in the theater and am looking forward to adding this title to my library. I do not really buy digital version much anymore and have no problem waiting for the physical disc to be released.

Well if the disc comes with the code that gives you the digital version why pay for just the digital version.

Because it’s usually much cheaper than the disc. As low as $4.99. In my case it depends on the film. If I really love it I’ll buy the disc, otherwise the digital will suffice. The difference between the two visually and aurally is negligible imo.

I support both formats. But to each his own.

It looks weird to see Sony listed on Amazon as the distributor of a Disney title which is itself based on a legacy Fox property. I know that's how it works now. But it still looks weird. It is going to take some time to get used to that.

That being said, this is the first Disney movie in several years that I have felt reasonably comfortable pre-ordering from Amazon because Amazon has no feud ongoing with Sony. Being able to get Disney movies from Amazon again will be a good side effect of this new distribution agreement.

That's a discussion for another thread!
Thank you Crawdaddy, I'll take it under advisement.

Any threads related to that kind of post?

iTunes 4K upgrades? any thread.

What do you think a thread for that kind discussion should be named for this site?

I don't want that linked thread to be sidetracked with the subject matter that he's talking about. He needs to start a new thread to discuss which titles with 4K streams haven't been released on 4K/UHD.
