I hit my local Best Buy (right on the way to work) at about 10:10. There were about 25 people in line already (they had four cashiers working, very unusual for a weekday morning). All but one person had one (and in several cases two) copies of TPM.
I'd say this disc will be moderately successful.

The local Best Buy is 2 blocks from my gym so I stopped by after my workout about 11 am. Large display, 2-3 more people in line with TPM, but no great crunch.
(But tonight is Tuesday. That means Buffy, Gilmore Girls, Smallville (premier), Dharma & Greg, and Undeclared. TPM may have to wait.)
The "Bonus" disk is a CD rom of demo games from Lucasarts. According to the label it has:
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds - PC
Star Wars: Rogue Leader - Gamecube (old game)
Star Wars: Obi-Wan - Xbox (the new Dark Forces/Jedi Knight game)
Star Wars: Starfighter Special Edition - Xbox
And much more!
My guess is that some of these are screen shots to encourage you to buy the new game systems, with a possible demo of Obi-Wan. But these things usually also appear attached to PC Gamer magazine. So I doubt it will become a collectors item.
(Big Hint Lucasarts: A demo DVD with various THX trailers ... that would be something.)
(Yes, I have a CD drive in my work computer. But it's a new Win2000 system and the company is a little hinkey about outside software being loaded.)

No stories to report here, except some other guy was examing the spine very closely as if he was looking for something. Is there something we should've been looking for?

I picked up my copy uneventfully at Circuit City, this one is never busy because of its funky location.
My friend Scott, however, went to Best Buy and got there about 10 minutes before they opened and was in a line about 60 people long to get in. They had a woman handing out the Bonus Disc(no purchase was required to get it) and he said pretty much everyone there made a beeline to TPM DVD's. He said there was still a line of people when he left.

I stopped at my local K-Mart this morning and they had no display for TPM. I looked on their shelves for it, no dice. I asked the salesperson in that area about it. "It releases today??" she says. She looked in two different areas where they keep stock, but came up with nothing. She decided that they must not have gotten any in. I doubt that, but it's their loss anyway. I went to Circuit City at lunch and picked it up without any problems. They didn't have a display up either, just in among their other sales and new releases. I saw at least six other people with it while I was there, and that's about every shopper that was in the store.

Hey Mike Loiterman,
I guess I can be considered a spine inspector as well. I had to sift through about 5 copies before I found a perfectly straight cover. When i bought the terminator: SE, the cover wasn't straight, and the theft protection sticker peeled some of the cover off. Ever since, I've been making sure that the spine is straight and the front & back cover is securely underneath the plastic, away from the theft sticker.
By the way, i got my bonus disc from the cardboard display.

I am a spine inspector to. Sometimes when the careless employees open the shipping boxes with their box cutters they cut the spine of the dvds that are packed on top.

Yeah, after he looked at the spine I looked at mine and a few others, but I wasn't sure what I was looking for...:)
At least now I know what to check!

My spine matched up pretty good. It's slightly off but it's not as bad as some of the other discs I have.

Bought mine at Best Buy on lunch break with no problems. Noticed that all of the Cats & Dogs were in full screen.

I went to Media Play after work, went to the DVD section, and picked it up along with the new Stooges DVD. I won't be able to watch it until the weekend, but I can't wait! :)

I'm waiting to be flamed, but I had to rent mine for the time being. I went to Blockbuster(AAAHHHHGGGG!Never going there again). I asked if they had any copies of TPM to rent, and they guy (poor schlub) said Blockbuster wasn't getting any copies in to rent. Then I asked if they had Cats and Dogs WIDESCREEN, and he said "sorry, we only carry the fullscreen." They didn't even have widescreen to buy!So, I went into Holywood Video, they had TPM, but no Cats and Dogs widescreen. Just to try my luck, the other Blockbuster in town didn't have either as well. So, I rented from Holywood. I wish I could find Cats and Dogs WIDESCREEN!
