I am looking into getting a front projector. And I happen to come upon a Runco projector....That was 45 thousand dollars. Yes, 45 thousand dollars! I understand some of these projectors run in the 10-20k range. But, 45k!!! Holy crap that is a lot for a tv. But, I hear you get a free dvd player with a purchase. [IMG]

Actually if I remember correctly a Pinninfarrena(Ferrari) designed projector(Vidikron or Runco) was more than $100 000!

CRT-based front projectors are ultra-precision instruments handmade in extremely limited quantities, so that explains -- in part -- the pricing. Some manufacturers, though, apparently are following the old high-end-audio price-markup mode (not Runco, however).

Even still, the end result is a product that's at the state of the art in terms of consumer home video. It's the closest you presently can get to recreating the cinema experience at home.
