Budget DVD/SACD? (1 Viewer)

I am currently using a Sony Playstation 2 as my DVD source. The other day my wife brought home a Toshiba SD-K740 DVD player form Costco and I began wondering to myself what would I have to spend to buy something that plays SACD and DVD's with a modicum of respectability? I know, "What is your budget?" some are asking. I am thinking as affordable as possible. Can anybody offer suggestions? I am more concerned with sound than video abilities.

"affordable" doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. $500 is an affordable DVD player to me.

Pioneer 563a is an inexpensive universal player that seems to be popular. I went with the Denon 2200 universal player. You should be able to find plenty of info on the two with a search in this forum.

The Sony model 685 usually gets praise for DVD-V and SACD. It is a changer and lists for $249. Toshiba as noted above has universal players coming out. Here is some info on the Sony - http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.proc...153%3B+Changer

Here is some info on the Toshiba single disc univesal player: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.proc...Audio+Pl ayer

Yamaha has a universal player that is a bit more:

Pioneer has the 563 universal player which is cheaper:

Denon also has the model 2200 which is $599 list and can be had for a bit cheaper

Depends on your budget.

The 2200 was available for a short time at ecost.com for $289+shipping refurbished. A heck of a deal no matter which way you look at it. Even with the outrageous exchange rate, I still got one for just over $500CND after shipping and taxes, which is half of Canadian MSRP BEFORE taxes.

Definately something to look out for.
