Okay, so, if they're going to release these serials why won't they release the old black and white serials of Superman and Batman!!!!!

Wait wait wait wait wait… "The show that launched Star Wars!!!!" Hardly…

Star Wars was released in May 1977…

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century didn't hit the airwaves until nearly two-and-a-half years later in September 1979.

If anything, Universal was looking at the immense success of Star Wars as their reasons for greenlighting both Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers.

Also, Universal's upcoming release of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century TV series has no bearing whatsoever on any possible future DVD releases of either the Superman or Batman serials. Universal didn't make, doesn't own, nor holds any home video rights to those serials.
The 1943 Batman and 1948 Superman serials were originally Columbia Pictures releases. The Home Video rights for Superman is held by Warner Bros. (or at least it was in the late 1990s). As for Batman, both Goodtimes and Sony have released this on VHS in the past, and might still hold the rights.

Just thought I should clear up any misconceptions as to the owners of these very different products.

From your post, you seem to be referring to the classic serials but your topic is referring to the 70's TV series title that is coming to DVD soon. Am I right? The classic serials of Buck Rogers, as well as Mandrake, Phantom, and many others are offered from VCI on DVD. They offer a Flash Gordon one too, but Image has a three disc box recently released.
