I think it's pretty obvious Bubba Ho-Tep will never get a wide theatrical release, but what are the chances of it getting any release at all? It was first shown at a film festival more than a year ago. I would think that Bruce Campbell's presence alone guarantees enough sales to make it worth a DVD release. Has anyone heard anything?
I'd beg to differ. Brief story: I was at the SXSW Film Festival last month and had the chance to meet director Don Coscarelli for about 6.2 minutes. Involuntarily shedding my 'try to act like a professional movie critic you geek' exterior, I talked Phantasm (Part 1) with him before he had to run in and introduce Bubba. I saw the movie and really loved it. I wrote a review and just got an email back from Mr. C which said something to the effect of "Expect some distributor news within the next few weeks". Then he offered to do an email interview if I was interested. Quivering fanboy that I am, I'll follow up on that early next week. If you'd like to see my review click here. So the bottom line is this: As of this moment, the film officially has no distributor (theatrical or video) but I'll be sure to let you know when there is!
Far be it? That's twice you've posted an ad for AICN. I was just trying to share some personal experience on the movie at hand. And maybe they've done 23 articles on the flick. Great. Quantity over quality is their bread and butter.
Man, I saw this last year at the CineVegas Film Festival. It got a huge response, I'm surprised no one has picked up this great film. I hope it gets distributed soon, so I can see it again.
Little off-topic, but fans of this movie should read Joe R. Lansdale's excellent short story (more of a novella) that the film is based upon. It's available in his "High Cotton" collection. Highly recommended reading, as is almost of his work for fans of dark mystery/humor.
