I received the following e-mail from James Tanner at Bryston:

I've been thinking seriously about getting the SP-1 (along with Bryston's 5 channel amplifier), but the lack of a 5.1 analogue bypass was a major sticking point. So for me this is great news.

Did he happen to mention how much the upgrade would cost and whether or not they are thinking of adding 7.1 to the SP-1???

They are adding 7.1 outputs bLnced and unbalanced.) Retail price on the unit is $4800 US and it will start shipping in January or February. If you e mail Mr. Tanner he will tell you the cost of the upgrade. The upgrade does require returning the unit to the factory.
    Best regards-Henry

Was there any mention about IEEE 1394/Firewire?

    No firewire.
The three main changes will be the addition of DPL-2, 5.1 analog bypass, 7.1 output.
For existing units, it requires a change to a new rear panel, front panel and digital board.
The two extra back channels for 7.1 will come from existing rear surround RCA outputs with the other channels continuing to be balanced outputs.
There will be an RCA rear panel 5.1 multichannel input added.
The new front panel allows for selection of the new features.

    Bruce,
Any idea what they are planning as far as the 7.1 ouput is concerned?? Is it their own design or something they licensed from someone else?? Any info provided would be appreciated, thanks.
