He threw down about $55,000, but got a sweet SUV with a chrome package to boot. What a nice ride, not like the older Hummers. You can actually get a tricked out one with 500 someodd horsepower engine for around eighty something thousand.

The H2 is my most-wanted vechicle. It is just a tad out of my budget right now. [IMG]

Why not just buy a suburban 2500? it's more or less the same platform..

Philip, you need to go check one of these Hummers out and compare them to a Suburban. I think you will be seeing alot more Hummers around soon.

    the H2?
it really is roughly the suburban chassis, IIRC it's a little shorter, very similar engine with some minor changes, the drivetrain is a little different, otherwise slap a different body and interior on it.

As my dad (a 30+ year army veteran) puts it: If it ain't got an exhaust stack so you can drive through waist-deep water, it ain't a real hummer.

While driving through my neighborhood the other day, I encountered one of these head on in my lane. Why? so he could go around a pothole on his side of the street. Just another over-hyped, over-marketed gas sucker as far as I'm concerned.

Yes because so many people that can afford a Hummer go offroad. [IMG] It's powerful, distinctive, and can haul a lot of goodies. Nothing wrong with having one if you can buy it.
My friend is an Army military mechanic and has worked on Hummvees since he graduated. When he got back from Kuwait I asked him what he thought about the new H2 and he said they're nice and he'd like to have one. I also asked him what he thought about the military-spec Hummvees and he said they're junk and they break down more than anything else he's worked on.
    Just fyi...

Please, call them H2, not Hummer.
And seeing a lot more? I saw at least 4 of them yesterday, driving around for about 2 hours. They are a huge success, I've seen far more of those around than other $50K+ vehicles (or maybe I just notice them more). Beats me why, they're ugly as hell, IMO. But at half the price or so of the Hummer, I guess they appeal to a lot more people.

You're right MickeS. It is a H2. Clinton, I bet there will be an aftermarket exhaust system available with the high pipes. LOL! Definitely not a SUV for the utopians out there.

Saw something on TNN or TNT the other day about it. They said other than the Hummer, it was the most capable off road vehicle made.

It does have some other suspension variations from the other GM stuff. I for one think it looks pretty sweet.

Is a def. a good looking truck. Have a lot of them cruising around where I live...but I can say that it is still overkill for an SUV...although I do feel they all SUV's should be built like this.
Now...if it come down to where these trucks should be owned. Different story. [IMG]

Personally, I think both the Hummer and the H2 are two of the ugliest cars I've ever seen. Just a big box on wheels. If they cost $15K, I almost think we'd see fewer of them...

Why do you see Land Cruisers and the like in all the places where SUVs actually make sense?

Because you can get parts freely or at least easier. Try that in the Kalahari with your Hummer!
