Are there any plans to release the Britney Spears Onyx Hotel Tour special that aired on Showcase on DVD? I saw the show in Toronto this past weekend, and really enjoyed it, and also have tickets to see it again in June.

I personally don't know of any specific plans for a DVD, but the last time Britney Spears did a live cable broadcast of a concert (that time on HBO), it did come out on DVD eventually.

Who was the big special guest btw? They had rumored Madonna but I know it wasn't.

It came out pretty quickly, actually. The show aired right before Thanksgiving 2001 and the DVD hit the streets mid-February 2002. I'd not be surprised to see this show hit DVD quickly, if just to help promote the summer concerts...

I'm surprised this hasn't come out yet. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to settle for Greatest Hits: My Prerogative DVD out November 9th.

dont care for her that much, but I thought the MC/host on the show/tour was hysterical! that guy ruled IMHO. However, I heard reports that all she did was lip-synch on that concert for Showtime, and I did tape it, and the more I see it, it sure looks like she is lip-synching(note depsite the microphone, she is never breathless, even after doing dancing!)

Did you happen to see the show on Showtime? I think that will tell you why it isn't out on DVD.

Just awful stuff. Truly bizarre as to what audience it is for. Some hard R or even NC-17 style dancing (not to mention some of the vulgar stuff the MC was saying) and musically, just embarassing.

She did lipsync, but the few ballads she did live were sooo offkey, her voice was so awful, she is probably trying to keep it off the market.

I'm not sure why people who have no interest in Britney Spears, or people who are just cruel feel the need to bash Britney and post on this thread. I happened to see the show, which I thought was amazing! Britney lip-synched because of her dancing, and trust me, she was out of breath when she spoke to the audience, at least when I saw her in Toronto. As for her audience, Britney hasn't been catering to little girls since her "Britney" album, and parents should know what they are taking their children to see, especially when she has a song title called, "Touch of My Hand." That would also explain the erotic nature for that portion of the show. Just offering my point of view as a Britney supporter, take it as you will!

The fact that the show was mediocre has nothing to do with it not being on DVD yet. There will be a huge audience for the DVD regardless of how good it was. (and it was mediocre, I saw it live).

I was thinking this should have already been out too. Guess I'll just have to wait. If it's not released it will be Britney's first tour (aside from opening for N Sync) that was not released. And yes, she lipsynced every song except "Shadow" and "Everytime". Both of which she didn't sound that bad, (on SNL she preformed Everytime live and she sang it in a lower key and it sounded good, but on the album they made it higher and so now she sings it higher.)

I am not here to bash Britney fans or crap in this thread, but I had to respond to this. Prince (among many others) comes to mind as someone who seems to do pretty well dancing and singing at the same time. If you can't do both credibly maybe you shouldn't be performing live.

ALso, Christina Aguilera. I'm not a hardcore fan, so I haven't seen a lot of her performances, but the few I've seen, have been live, regardless of the very busy choreography involved.

I think she does lip synch now, but Madonna used to sing and dance at the concert, and did not resort to lip synching. She was always out of breath before singing the next tune. Not sure how she was able to do this night after night.

Madonna never actually lipsyncs, never really has (except for one song on Blond Ambition where she announced said fact to audience). For her dance numbers, sometimes they play a pre-recorded track that she sings live over. Unfortunately, you usually hear the pre-recorded track much better than her. It enhances her vocals, but does not replace them. I have heard some of her tour recordings that came direct from her headset and she is off-key but still singing during her high energy dance numbers (albeit over the prerecorded vocals).

wow, thats interesting. Yeah, even debbie Gibson didnt lip synch on her concerts, and if the most successful female pop/dance artist Madonna can still sing and dance at her age, well, i guess than Britney should be able to, (she is half Madonna's age), especially since someone here pointed out aguila sings and dances also, considering the money Britney charges for her "concert", she should give her fans a livre performance, isnt that what a concert is all about. Wasnt Millie Vanilli crucified for lipsynching on their concert? (of course if you listen to any of Britney's CD tunes, she sings very little of the tunes, like BABY ONE MORE TIME, or TOXIC, half the song is sang by the background singers, you do not hear britney's voice in the chorus part, unlike Madonna, Pink, etc)

Walter, you seem to be really un-informed about a lot of this. And since you don't seem to be a fan, why do you care? That doesn't go for just Walter, but for other people who have posted regarding Britney.

    - Britney's dance routines are higher energy compared to Christina Aguilera's. I have also seen Christina in concert, and Christina has back-up dancers that do most of the work, and Christina just kind of dances around with them, like Cher, and unlike Britney.

    - Everyone going into Britney's concert knows she lyp-synches, knows of the risque material she performs, and can base their decision to go on that, and pay the price for a ticket. It's not a big surprise to fans when they get there.

    - Milli Vanilla was "crucified" for having other singers sing their songs for them, not lyp-synching which Britney gets in trouble for.

    - Britney voice is very much apparent on her own songs, but she has been known to use a vocoder, similar to what Cher uses on "Believe" for songs like "Toxic." In fact, I don't hear a lot of backup, but of course, there is some.

I'm sorry I had to rant, but someone has to stand up for Britney. She unfortunately gets very little respect, which is unfortunate, when she gives back and doesn't concern herself with bashing other artists. She is above that, unlike other artists. Now that that's cleared up, maybe we can get back to the discussion whether the "Onyx Hotel Tour" will make its way to DVD?

It most likely will. All the controversy surrounding the tour can only help it. Plus let's be realistic here... There's a lot of single men out there who wouldn't be caught dead listening to her music, but would love to watch her on their big screens... *shudder*
