How long does it take to break in speakers?

I'm asking because I just bought a new Paradigm center channel and in the owners manual it states...Although Paradigm speakers sound great out of the carton, they will sound even better when they are broken in. Thanks in advance for any help.

Depends on the speaker and your playing habits.

For example you might be playing a lot of ‘reality TV’ on your system, with a limited frequency spread at reasonably low volume levels. Or you might listen to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony at very loud levels.

Even so, I think that after 60–100 hours you won’t be able to detect any further change. And most of the change will occur within the first 10–20 hours of listening.

    Thanks for the reply.

I use it for about 80-90% movies, with the rest music. I've watched a couple of movies so far with it and while it sounds good, I haven't detected any change so far.

It will be difficult to detect the change, and it will slowly occur over time. Things will just smooth out a bit, the change is not often an extreme, it varies depending on the speaker though. Paradigms are known to take a long time to break in, depending on the model. My CC370 took a good few weeks to settle down, while my Mordaunt Shorts in my bedroom took longer.

How do you break speakers in? DO you play them normally or do you have to vary the levels a lot?

    Just play them normally.
