...or, why Jay lives in Harvard Square. [IMG]
I've got to say, the guys running the Brattle have been really on top of their game the last few months, and the stuff coming up for the rest of the year is no exception:

    14-Nov-02: Stalker
    "Wild About Wilder" Mondays
18-Nov-02: Kiss Me, Stupid (new 35mm print, European version)
25-Nov-02: The Lost Weekend and Witness For The Prosecution
02-Dec-02: The Big Carnival (aka Ace In The Hole) (new 35mm print)
09-Dec-02: Some Like It Hot and The Fortune Cookie

    03-Dec-02: Better Off Dead
10-Dec-02: The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles
17-Dec-02: Weird Science and Real Genius
    "Recent Raves" Wednesdays
    20-Nov-02: Happy Times
    20-Nov-02: Bluff (locally-produced film)
27-Nov-02: 8 Women and Merci Pour Le Chocolat
    04-Dec-02: Metropolis (1927, restored)
11-Dec-02: I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
    18-Dec-02: Satin Rouge and Siddhartha
    "25 Years of Kino" Thursdays
21-Nov-02: Visions Of Light and The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (new 35mm prints)
    28-Nov-02:
05-Dec-02: The Blue Angel (resotred 35mm print) and Match Factory Girl
12-Dec-02: Fallen Angels and Happy Together
    19-Dec-02: The Piano Teacher
    Special Engagements
    15-Nov-02 to 17-Nov-02: Home Movie
15-Nov-02 to 17-Nov-02: The Evil Dead (restored 35mm print)
22-Nov-02 to 23-Nov-02: Written On The Wind and The Tarnished Angels
    24-Nov-02: Imitation Of Life
29-Nov-02 to 01-Dec-02: The Producers (restored 35mm print)
06-Dec-02 to 08-Dec-02: Rocco And His Brothers
    13-Dec-02 to 15-Dec-02: Baraka (new 35mm print)
    13-Dec-02 to 15-Dec-02: Fight Club
27-Dec-02 to 02-Jan-03: Spirited Away (dubbed and subtitled)
    12-31-02: Apparently a secret
    Christams (Closed 24-Dec-02)
    20-Dec-02 to 26-Dec-02: It's A Wonderful Life
    20-Dec-02 to 22-Dec-02: Gremlins (new 35mm print)
23-Dec-02 to 26-Dec-02: Wings Of Desire
The Kino series includes a couple of weird double-features, and I wish the bookers around here would realize that even people who have to get up the next morning want to see Spirited Away subtitled. Still, a lot I'm looking forward to here, especially the Tartovsky and Wilder series. There are a frightening number of 80s movies I've never seen - I just look confused when somebody says something from The Breakfast Club I'm expected to recognize). I was surprised to see in the schedule that there just apparently aren't prints of Heathers available, and Say Anything is allegedly only available on 16mm. Also cool to see that Janus and Kino were started by ex-Brattle people.

Good news on Spirited Away having another subbed print in the Boston area, I doubt I'll be able to make it to the Coolidge Corner in Brookline. [IMG]
Definately some stuff I'd like to check out. Never been to the Brattle Theater before. Living an hour away from Boston can suck sometimes.
Thanks for posting the schedule. [IMG]

It's just too bad the only times subbed versions are run is 10pm (that's what the new schedule says the plan is at the Brattle, just as with Coolidge Corner). Would just one 7pm subtitled showing hurt?

Somehow, I knew the Tarkovsky stuff would get a response from Rich. [IMG]

And not only the fact of the showing of the Tarkovsky - cause enough for celebration - but also the very notion that "Andrei Rublev" is a new print of the director's cut. If Criterion is now revisiting "Beauty and the Beast", retransferring it from a new and improved print, perhaps they'll do the same for "Rublev"?

Actually, I believe that the schedule (don't have it with me here at work, so I may be misremembering the exact details) mentions that the print was constructed by The Criterion Collection, but I thought it was something that was already on the shelves.

Ohhh... so "new" then really must mean from quite a few years back, if it's Criterion's transfer of the print spirited out of the USSR by friends of Martin Scorsese that they're referring to. Ah well, it will still be entirely worthwhile! [IMG]

Oh, I'm so jealous. I haven't seen Solaris on the big screen in over 28 years (Esquire Theater, Chicago Film Festival). And I've never seen Andrei Rublev on a large screen.

    What a wonderful schedule. Sigh...

BTW, where IS that Beauty and the Beat DVD? What about Rules of the Game???

Okay, here's what the schedule says about Rublev:
