    Hi,

Does anyone know if the planned Bram Stoker’s Dracula Special Edition is still in the works or if the Super Bits release means that there won’t be any Special Edition? There were rumours sometime ago that it was due out in 2002 but since then I didn’t heard anything else.

    Thanks,

    António

Watching Ebert and Roeper the other night Ebert made a suggestion about the Super Bit dvds that I have allready seen a few times.

First he said they do look better, then he said but I don't get it I like the extras and if you want to make a Superbit DVD that looks great fine but when not just toss the extras on a second disc like so many of the 2 Disc DVD sets we have seen lately.

Dracula would have been an excellent title for a two disc set with the movie in superbit version on one and all the extras that we know exisit from previous SEs of this movie on LD and what not on the other.

The HTF review didn't mention anything about a Dracula SE, and so the original question of whether it's in the planning stages or it's been canceled because of the SuperBit release is still up in the air.

    Anyone?

Actually I think someone in that thread also asked about the SE status.

I'm not sure if anyone knows anything solid about that. But the rumor keeps boiling which is a good sign I think.

Somebody here must have the latest rumors on hand. The question is certainly important with the Superbit coming out because people now want to know if they should wait or not.

    MaxY,

Because they want us to buy it again - the next release will be the superbit transfer with the extras on disc 2.

This wont be a sale or me as I dont own a large 16x9 TV.

Im getting tired of rebuying DVDs. I would have preferred a SE with extra footage more than anything else.

I would absolutely love to see a Dracula SE.

Actually, I like to think of the

"SuperBit" DVDs as what they are:

"bare bones" DVDs, albeit, very nice quality ones.

Far from any definition of "Special Edition"

as we tend to connotate it in DVD land.

    Alan and Antonio,

I apologize. I should have seen SE in the

original question. I had mistaken the question

for the Superbits release. I apologize for the

    answer I gave.

    Max Y,

You know what? Superbits would be a better idea

if ALL future major Columbia titles were done in

Superbits with a 2nd disc for extras. Otherwise,

it almost seems like a waste releasing two versions.

Well, it seems Ron found a marginal difference at best. Unless Bjoern chimes in with a definitive "SB is better" post, I'll probably hold off on this a while and see if that rumored SE ever shows up. I liked this movie enough to buy it twice, but not three times. [IMG]
