I just realized that if this is true, we may finally be able to watch season 1 without that laugh track, assuming Disney will give us a separate audio track without it. :)

This is excellent news. I've always thought Sports Night was in top 5 Best Shows on TV and it's great to hear it's coming to DVD. I really want the ability to turn OFF the laugh track and I'd love to see some behind the camera, between takes goofing around. This cast looked like it had a lot of fun ON camera, so OFF camera must have been great. Here's hoping this "rumor" gets officially announced and soon!

this will make the vcd sets going on ebay for $60-75 a lot less appealing. i was toying with the idea of burning my vhs taped off of comedy central onto vcd or svcd, but i think i'll mow the yard instead...

now...who do i give my money to? i'm ready to buy!!

Here's an update on the Sports Night DVD release. The info, taken from the above link, supposedly comes from someone who actually worked on the release. This is fantastic news! :D
ABC will be announcing soon that the entire series of Sports Night will be released on DVD November 5th. They will sell for about $79.99 each, and they are only pressing 75,000 units of the SN box sets, so I say we get them sold out and then rush them for a special edition.

I'm a bit confused about the quote, rush them for a special edition? IE the primary release should be followed by a more special release??

If the quote is accurate, I do wonder if it will be limited to 75k, or if that's just the first pressing. If it's the former, I'll need to get my preorder on this one once it's available. What an interesting idea for TV on DVD.

I think the quote refers to his disappointment that the powers that be did not want to include any special features. obviously, a bare bones release would be cheaper to produce than one packed w/ extras. And I think the bit about a special edition is just wishful thinking. I also think the 75K figure is probably right. Heck, nobody watched this show when it was on! I can't imagine too many people are going to rush out and fork over $80 for something that they've never seen (and that's on basic cable to boot) (present company excluded :D )

Bringing this one back up for what seems to be confirmation of the November 5 date and $80 MSRP.
