Bookshelf speakers Recommendation & Setup (1 Viewer)

I am looking to hookup a good bookhelf speaker set and a sub with my computer. Originally I was interested in buying a box setup such as Klipsch promedia or Logitech Z623 . But now I am thinking to go for a passive setup.
What will be the recommended setup keeping in mind a max budget of 250.
I thought of going with this :

Also, how is the setup done. Are bookshelf speakers connected to an amplifier , or is it just the subwoofer that is connected to an amplifier, and then bookshelf are plugged to the subwoofer ?

Generally, you would need to have some sort of pre-out to make the subwoofer work unless you want it in the path with your speakers. Since most T-Amp/DAC combinations don't offer a sub pre-out, I recommend running the subwoofer in chain between the amp and speakers. Also, i'd recommend this sub instead:

I recommend any sub with a daisy chain. Preferably one with high pass filtering. But that isn't going to exist at your price point.
The high level on that Dayton might do filtering at 80hz..

That's why i'm partial to the Dayton. While not true "bass management" the crossover knob will accomplish enough to get by.
