Since the line is "not clean" I will spoiler it, it contains bad language.

When william h macys character is talking to the cameraman while his wife is "having sex" with a guy on the driveway, william macys character says:

yes I am upset, my wife has an ass in her cock

was that intentional or did Macy mess up his line?

I always took it that he was upset and flustered. Seemed to fit perfect with the frustration he was feeling at the time, especially with the camera guy trying to talk to him about the new lens.

That was my take as well. I always wonder why in films or television, charaters hardly eve ever botch their speech just like people do in real life

I always found it to be funny. Me and my friend quote that line all the time.

todd's link refers to someone saying this:

That's possible, but it seems more likely to me that Macy just flubbed the line, only to have P.T. Anderson like it and decide to keep it in.

Definitely. That's always been one of my favorite lines. It's a happy accident.

I say it's because "cock in her ass" would've got them an NC-17.

    Nice Patrick, [IMG]

It was an unintentional flub by Macy. P.T. though Macy did a great job, which he did in that scene, and decided to keep it the way it was. Who knows if Macy could of delivered such a great job more than once?

Bill Macy doesn't flub lines. That's got to be scripted.

Maybe, Tim, but even the best actors mess up a line or two on occasion.

Everyone makes mistakes, Willam H. Macy included...

    From www.movie-mistakes.com:

"In the scene where Nina Hartley is having sex in the driveway surrounded by men, her husband says to the lighting director..." My wife's in the driveway with an ass in her cock..." I think they put those words backwards, shouldn't it have been "a cock in her ass"? [Forgive the vulgarity, but some things just have to be done...] [Could well be deliberate, because he was angry at the time, and it's funnier that way round]. [In the original script, the line was indeed "...cock in her ass." But as said before, it sounds funnier the other way around.] "

How many other movies of P.T.'s have weird lines like that in them? None to my knowledge...

I always figured it was a fluster mistake, which always made the scene more humorous.

Man, if my wife had...and some dude was just constantly bugging me about equipment...I'd probably say the same thing.

Whether flubber or deliberate, it's a keeper. Wouldn't be nearly as funny the correct way.

Yeah, same here. I noticed it right off and it matched how flustered I figured the character had to be. The line is about as good as it could be [IMG]
