My girlfriend and I love to travel and
we often take several vacations throughout
    the year.

We mostly do cruises which means lots of
time sitting out on our cabin balcony watching
    the water roll by.

We spend our time drinking and engaging in great
    conversation.

My girlfriend thought it would be a great idea
to go out and buy a board game to help pass the
time. Since I am not much of a card player I
thought this would be a cool idea.

Besides the more "intimate" games available for
couples on vacation what are some "cool" board
games (or otherwise) that we can play together?

Drinking games are a possibility but that usually
    results in someone throwing up.

Trivia games sound sort of neat.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

Ron there are some movie trivia games out there. Also the "Sceneit?" trivia games which usually come with a DVD or two to watch movie clips and answer trivia about them. So...if you have a laptop with a DVD player...that could be fun and different as well.

I'm a sucker for the old standards. Chess, checkers, backgammon, scrabble.
If you get friendly with another couple, Cranium is a great game...especially when cocktails are involved

Hmmm... hard to think of two player games. Stratego is a classic.

If you can get two other people, I highly recommend Malarky.

I've gotten hooked on a strategy game called Settlers of Catan. I'm not sure how it would be with only two people, but it's a great game (kind of similar to Risk, but you can't use the same strategy every time because the board changes every time).

    Ron,

    Try looking at boardgamegeek.com.

They almost always have some discussions or lists about games to play while traveling.

It's almost as addicting as HTF.

Settlers is great for 3-6 people; no good for 2.

Acquire is a good two-player strategy game.
    Scrabble if you're both wordy.

Scattergories is a fun one to play. Obviously, the more people , the more fun, but at least with the two of you, you can see how similar or different your trains of thoughts are.

Trivial Pursuit is another good one to play.
