My Vizio 5.1 soundbar (with rear speakers) can only interpret regular old dolby digital. Luckily my Sony bluray has the option to downconvert audio to dolby digital before it sends it to the sound bar. All my movies sound great regardless.

What I'm worried about is if a movie only has a PCM track. How will that be outputted? Will it only be 2.1, or will it be converted to DD by the bluray player like the rest of the surround formats?

PS: audio is being send to soundbar via digital coaxial

Audio will output to the soundbar as PCM 2.0, the soundbar *may* process it as Dolby Pro-Logic, extracting a matrixed surround for the rears. It won't be a discrete surround, though.
