I ran across Serial Squadron, company that specialises in vintage serials from the 20s -40s. I have bought from them before and it seems they are also offering some of thier newer releases on "Hybrid BRDs".Thier take is this "A DVD/Blu-Ray Hybrid is an SD transfer authored and burned to a region-free 25gb Blu-Ray BD-R for enhanced picture and audio quality. Since Blu-Rays hold so much content, this is the perfect way to present a serial because files can be presented in uncompressed form and that means a sharper picture, smoother motion, less grain, and very clear audio -- no steps removed from the original restoration, and what an improvement!" There is no mention of digitally remastering the serials, and I don't want to assume, so I'd like to know if others here are able to see a marketed difference between these hybrid BRDs and say a nic DVD edition? It seems these 25gb discs are single layer BRDs, but if the source materials are not remastered does it still upgrade the images and audio? There are some really nice serials and I just don't want to buy into the hype! they offer HD BRD editions to other classic serials, I just don't see the benfit of a hybrid BRD if they had the option to go for a remastered BRD edition? Is it just me or..? Warning not a secure site, to me a red flag, but just so you know!!! index.html.

Too little, too late.

Unfortunately this idea didn't take off more than a decade ago. Probably not likely to become large scale at this point.

it seems that this hybrid format doesn't play well on some machines? To me that would be an issue as a merchandizer, like shooting yourself in the foot just to offer something new?
