Blu-ray players will output in 1080i for Blu-ray disks as long as the disk is authored for it, which is, as far as I know, all of them. You won't get upconversion of standard DVD via component, but you will get 1080i from BD's.

Get a Blu Ray player that already has component video outputs. Why would you want to add an adapter to the mix?

Isn't there a problem with running HD content over component? I thought I read somewhere that it has to go through HDMI because of that stupid HDCP copy protection scheme, or something like that.

Component is limited to 1080i/720p for Blu-ray, and the players will not upconvert regular DVD to HD over component because of copy protection.

With a quality adapter you get upconversion capabilities + 1080p to your analog display (assuming your device supports it). This is a great option for those of us with older CRT projectors.

ok so if you have a comp connection and are only getting 1080i wouldn't your native 1080p television finish that upconversion to 1080p anyhoo?

If you have a 1080p TV, I would assume it has HDMI and the subject doesn't apply. We are talking about CRT based, component only TV's.
