I am thinking about getting a Blu Ray player, but I am not sure if I will get the full benefit with my current set up. I have a Sony VPL-HS20 Projector and am feeding all of my video through my Yamaha RX-V2400 Home THeater REceiver. I run the video to the projector with component video cables. If I hook up a Blu Ray player to my receiver with component video cables, will I get the full benefit of Blu Ray, or is it necessary to hook the player up to the projector with the HDMI cable?

Thanks in advance.

To get 1080p from blu ray, you'll need to use HDMI to projrctor. But, if projector isn't a 1080p projector, it doesn't matter.

For a blu ray player, you'll need to get something like the Sony BDP-S550 or Panasonic BD55, because they have the 5.1/7.1 multi-channel outputs, which you can use for the HD audio, from blu ray movies.

That won't be a problem, I am using a 720P projector and BD is a huge improvement.

If the projector is native 1080i then it will look the same as 1080p. If it is 720p it will still look better than standard 480.
