I'm watching this special right now, as I type this, and I find it pretty disturbing what these self-appointed censors are being allowed -- legally, so far -- to get away with. Anybody else watching?

Repeats (Eastern time):

April 27: 1:30AM
May 1: 11:30AM

Side note: I do find it a bit ironic that this special is being broadcast on AMC, which tends to be a bit heavy-handed with its own editing practices... Quite often, the same movie will make the rounds of TCM, Turner South, and AMC, all within a couple weeks' time...and there'll be different degrees of editing on each of the latter two networks' broadcasts.

LONG LIVE TCM!!!

Just finished watching. Excellent program. Couldn't help but think back to my own intellectual property course in law school. I don't think Clean Flicks has a leg to stand on. It's almost too "1984" for me. We don't trust people to be able to protect themselves or their children, so we have to protect them from the evils of art. Bizarre and frightening. I have no problem if people alter a film they purchase to spare their children seeing or hearing objectionable material, but these companies doing it for profit are infringing on the copyright.

I too think it is a bit ironic that this is showing on AMC. :)

Of all the companies discussed, the only one I think that can get away with what they are doing is Clear Play. Since the movie itself is not permanently altered, I don't have a problem with the "special" DVD player.

I thought this was only 30 minutes long and set my VCR accordingly. Doh! I set it to tape the rebroadcast at 1:30. :)

Thanks for the heads-up, Linda; caught the repeat.

Interesting show; I've read about most of what it covered, but it was still a pretty nice presentation of the issues.

Yeah, to me it's kind of the same thing as just fast-forwarding through something or muting the TV. I would never use it myself, and I would encourage other people not to use it, but I don't think it's infringing on copyright laws, unless someone figures out how to burn a copy of the ClearPlay-edited version and sell it (which will probably happen eventually).

However, I am completely against Cleanflicks, Family Flix, and all the others that acutally sell edited versions of the films. That is just straight up illegal.

I love it when people take their 10-year-olds to PG-13-rated movies and act surprised that there is sexual content. Sure there are some PG-13 films that are appropriate for some 10-year-olds, but the warning is still there. And nowadays there are plenty of ways to find out the content of a movie if you really want to, (including but not limited to watching the movie before you let your kids see it).

Sorry for the rant; it's just an issue I have strong opinions on. :)

Can someone tell me if this show will be rebroadcast today or later this week?

Thanks!

After watching the first broadcast, I recorded the second one to keep and share.

I agree with all the previous comments, including those about the ClearPlay player...I see absolutely nothing wrong with that, although I also would never use it myself. But, this whole editing (to SELL the edited version) business is just plain WRONG.

Check out these companies' websites (some not shown in the program):

http://www.cleanfilms.com/

http://www.familyflix.com/

http://www.editedfilms.com/

It scares me that this is being legally sanctioned.

Here's ClearPlay, which I view as a very viable alternative to the abominable editing companies above, for anyone who would seek out such services (no one here at HTF, I would imagine):
