I'm sure a lot of the films are in some kind of rights hell be it music or multiple production companies with unclear lines of ownership, but I sure would love to see a release of some of those listed, especially "Three the Hard Way" which has always been a guilty pleasure of mine and is about 20-25 years overdue for a video remaster.

    Regards,

I'm surprised that Universal released "Willie Dynamite," "Trick Baby" and "That Man Bolt" in January (and OAR-- that's more than "Colossus: The Forbin Project" or "Charley Varrick" got) because these titles are usually given redheaded-stepchild treatment from every studio save for MGM. Warners has a bunch outside of the already-released "Shaft" titles and the first "Cleopatra Jones" film, though I think rights issues will keep us from ever seeing "Abby" be legitimatly released due to a lawsuit from the producers of the "Exorcist" series.

And I think the odds of us seeing "Mandingo" or especially the "Nigger Charley" movies from Paramount are very slim indeed if only because of the latter films' titles.

I'd love to see Fox release "Gordon's War" or "Trouble Man," however. The Marvin Gaye soundtrack for the latter is easily available, but I don't think the film has ever been out on any home video format, though.

I didn't realize those Universal titles were out, I added them to my Netflix list yesterday along with a bunch of other stuff I never got around to seeing like Black Mama, White Mama, Watermelon Man and Cornbread, Earl and Me.

Having been struck down by a pesky virus this weekend, I laid on my couch and watched many of MGM's fine blaxploitation releases along with Columbia's Black Gunn. I would still love to see the sequel to Cleopatra Jones on DVD (Ooh Stella Stevens as the villain!)as well as many listed at the start of this thread. Hopefully studios like Warner or Sony (now that they own MGM's catalogue) will see fit to release more titles in the near future.

I haven't picked up any of htese, but I think I might have to start, they are cheap enough.

I'd love to see "The Black Gestapo" my favorite in the genre. I don't know if that's it's priginal title, but it was friggen awesome! A Black Panthers type group called "The Black Gestapo" decide that they aren't going to take the racist cops comin' down to their neighbour hood anymore and go to war. I think the guy who played "Mac" in TV's "Night Court" was in this, and he is just a cold blooded bastard. Great stuff!

They just screened "The Black Gestapo" -- apparently Quentin Tarantino's own print of it -- at the New Beverly Cinema in L.A. last month as part of their monthly exploitation double-bill. Unfortunately I was out of town. It's a roughie, for sure.

I heard rumors that the second Cleopatra Jones movie was going to be put out by Warners; they have "Black Eye" and "Black Samson" on VHS and I'm assuming those will turn up at some point. "Black Eye," directed by "Creature From The Black Lagoon's" Jack Arnold, is a pretty average detective film, but the over-the-top "Black Samson" is awesome (and pretty hilarious).

Hmmm, who owns the rights to this? Could this get a "Rolling Thunder" release? Or does Tarntino even do those anymore? I just watch the DVD of "Switchblade Sisters", and while not from this genre, it was a damn fine DVD.

I see "Willie Dynamite" can be had for under $10 now, so I'm going to have to get it ordered. I couldn't see "The Mac" available, has this had a release yet?

Isn't BLACK GESTAPO out on DVD as a double bill with BLACK SIX from Diamond Ent.?

THE MACK has been out for a couple of years in a really nice SE from New Line. And I'm pretty sure that even before the Miramax/Dimension/Disney separation that Rolling Thunder has been inactive for a few years. The last RT title might have been the reissue of the very good DETROIT 9000.

I was hoping with his company's title, QT would have at least secured the DVD release of the film ROLLING THUNDER.

Thanks for the heads up Mark, I don't know how I missed this. It doesn't appear to be in Canada, so I guess I'll have to import it. I second your opinion on Detroit 9000, a great flick!

Thanks, Netflix has 'Black Gestapo' also so I just added it to my list.

The Mack SE is a pretty impressive disc though I think Warner's Superfly is the best blaxploitation DVD release.

The last Rolling Thunder DVD I'm aware of was the double Zatoichi/Sonatine release. I have no idea what the actual last new RT release was, but I don't think they've put anything out in years. There have been movies like Hero and one or two other Asian kung fu Miramax releases tagged with a "presented by QT" but those weren't released under a Rolling Thunder umbrella.

Brook, be sure to let us know what company the dvd is from, and what the quality of the disc is. DVDsoon has the for mentioned 4 movie set, as well as BG on it's own for $7.

Can anyone comment on the quality of "Black Fist", "Black Cobra 2" and "BLACK SIX"?

    Brook,

True on Sonatine, but it was an older reissue. QT had nothing to do with Zatoichi or its distribution.

I'm a big Black exploitation fan!

I just picked up "special edition" of Abby from a retail establishment here in NY, and it tuns out to be an unauthorized release! Very disapointing, the DVD is watchable but just barely.

I also ordered the special edition of "The Spook Who Sat by the Door, which for some reason only a few e-tailers offer. It, however, is an authorized release...I hope. I haven't seen this for a long time.

My last order was for the UK DVD of Cleopatra Jones & The Casino of Gold as it was on sale at Amazon UK.

My most wanted DVD is Up Tight!, a black cast remake of "The Informer" directed by Jules Dassin from 1968. I've never seen it but I've been dying to for over 20 years now.
