You want the definitive Black Hawk Down? We think we have found it. This three disc (plus Soundtrack CD) with DTS sound is stunning! Find out what we thought here.

The DTS sounds amazing! Damn, and I just got my Deluxe edition autographed by Sgt. Matt Eversmann... When it makes R1, I guess I'll have to see if it's worth triple dipping...

Yes. Whoever thought of collecting different movies on DVD must be a really boring guy. Buying the same films in different packages, with different soundtracks and different transfers is the way to go !

    Bring 'em on !!

All we need in R1 is a regular single disc Superbit. Superbit Deluxe would be redundant, IMO. Ive already got the 3 disc edition, all I need now is the DTS and high bitrate transfer. I dont need to pay again for two discs I already have. The inclusion of the soundtrack really does not make this set particularly special. In the review, they call it "This R3 edition IS the definitive version " Without commentaries?
All that said, if it does get released in R1 as superbit deluxe, and it is my only choice, I will buy it again.

Superbit Deluxe would be redundant for you.
What about people like me who want all the extras PLUS dts and have waited so long for this edition to come out?
Do we have to buy two discs as well?

A superbit deluxe would not have all the extras. you would loose the commentaries. You want all the extras, a high bitrate transfer, and DTS? Youre only going to get it by buying this title twice.

    1. The current 3 disc deluxe edition
    2. A superbit release

I would rather the superbit release be a single disc, so it costs less. If it's superbit deluxe, I would have to buy 2 discs I dont need.

The R3 DVD is NOT the definitive version: it does not have any commentaries. So, buy the R1 SE and wait for the inevitable Superbit.

I would have to think that the Region 1 Superbit will be a single disc because of the extras and non-inclusion of commentaries.

The commentaries are the best extras on the disc in my opinion, especially track three. You would be losing a lot if they were excluded.

I think the picture and sound on the R1 editions are already quite good; I don't see how DTS could improve the track so much. Could be a different mix, you never know.

I also agree that losing the commentary tracks would be a huge negative.

I also wasn't too keen on losing the commentaries, but after listening to them I decided to sell my 2-disc R2 and go for the R3. Not to say that they're bad, they're all very good - it's just that after listening to them I'd probably have no reason to revisit them. So I went for the R3 (with the third disc that's not included on the UK R2 plus the CD soundtrack), and I'm very happy with it. The dts track is absolutely stunning. FYI the movie disc is also coded for R1, so a R1 BHD superbit release is not a question of if, but when.

Can anyone tell me if the 2 extras discs in the R3 Black Hawk Down Superbit Deluxe will play in a region 1 player or only the first disc?

    Greg Black,

Did you read the article from TOTALDVD (click the link) about the differences beetwin the DOLBY and the DTS track ?
I had the same feeling when i saw it the first time home in DOLBY... what, it won an oscar for the sound ??? Then i bought it from japan (with the fabulous DTS track) and then, i knew why it won an oscar for best soundrack ! It's just that DTS... is far far better and much more natural... bringing you right into action !!!
