On Grey Thursday:

Typically I buy a bunch of the $1.96 DVDs and $3.96 Blu-rays at Wal-mart to give away at my workplace, but I told folks last year that it'd probably be the last year of the give-away since I was stuck having to buy DVDs for some people (not on the BD train yet, still), and those with BD players, and it just wasn't fun anymore being stuck in between 2 formats. Sure, some BD titles also have a DVD in them, but not enough for my give aways. So I just shopped for myself at Wal-mart last night, and showing up around 11pm or midnight was good enough to find some deals on the $3.96 BDs, though I even splurged on 2 of the $6.96 titles (The Big Lebowski with some cool book-like packaging, and Cloud Atlas). So I bought almost $80 worth of the cheap BDs last night.

Also picked up the $6 Pacific Rim BD (bought a couple to hand out to my officemates), and a few $3.99 BDs from Best Buy. Also bought two 3TB hard drives from Best for $99.99 each, which should be enough for backing up my photos for 2014. I did the same in 2013, so I was okay with getting the storage for photos issue squared away.

On Black Friday:

Today was deja vu for me, during this evening, well into midnight hour, I went back Target for more Pacific Rim BDs, but didn't find any at my nearest Target, but the sales lady checked another nearby Target, and that store had 20 of them, so off I went, and pillaged them for 10 copies, so pretty much all my local friends are getting the Pacific Rim BD from me this year. LOL!

Went back to Wal-Mart since they were open 24 hours, and combed through their DVD/BD display, and found that they put out new stuff, and I found these Universal titles in steelcases for $3.96 each:

Hulk (Ang Lee)
Doom (The Rock)
The Mummy (did not buy)
Death Race
Serenity (bought one for me, one for a friend)
Hellboy 2
Paul

Also found the Bourne Trilogy titles from Universal for $3.96 each as well, so picked those up, as well as some other stocking stuffer, even picked up Kung-Fu Panda 1 and 2 on BD for $6.96 each since I never got around to it earlier. Dropped another $77 at Wal-Mart tonight.

A visit to Fry's yielded nothing for me, they really suck this year in general. But they tend to offer stuff all throughout December, but I doubt I'll do much business with them this year.

Amazon killed me. I got the Complete Dark Shadows set, The Mentalist Season 5, Person of Interest Season 2, Rocky & Bullwinkle Season 5, The Godzilla Collection, Up on Poppy Hill, Outsourced - The Complete Series, and the Murnau and Borzage at Fox box set.

And earlier in the week, Target had NCIS Season 9 for $10, but neither of the two stores I got to had it. He went out this afternoon and found it, but the sale price had changed from last Sunday's ad on Thursday for the Black Friday sales. He successfully convinced the guy at the store that usually the sale in the Sunday ad would still be good on Saturday and he was able to get it for the $10 pricepoint.

Quite a haul and not a lick of Christmas shopping done. I feel very selfish right now and a little bit ashamed. (Except I got some amazing deals onbig things that I would not have been able to justify any other time.)

Canadian businesses are starting to import this "black Friday" nonsense; however, judging by some of these prices they are unclear on the concept of what Black Friday actually means when it comes to sale prices. The prices in the stores where I live weren't anywhere near as low as what you guys (and gals) are stating.

This is why I like having worked for a wholesaler. I called in when I saw some of the BF-P in local ads. I asked what the wholesale kick price was on the three items I wanted. (one of the items was a "brand name" 15" subwoofer I got for less than the HSU ULS 15". As much as I will say)

Picked them up in Iowa Saturday morning when I was picking up the spare AMC Pacer I bought.

I actually bought nothing last year on BF day, IIRC, but made up for it this time around -- although much of it was spread out across the week -- including several much needed instrument cases that put a big hit in my wallet. Too many BDs to list, which included some Criterions from the B&N sale w/ the Zatoichi boxset being the final crowning one at a great price.Held off on a batch from DVDPlanet's Kino sale, but finally placed that order a couple days ago for some Buster Keaton BDs (plus a couple others) I didn't get around to earlier.Was tempted by MattCR's post about the Acer FP, but will do some more homework on FPs before making that leap. Maybe there will be a great deal in pre-Super-Bowl deal in Jan... _Man_

I didn't go out on Black Friday - I quit doing that years ago.

I did some shopping online, but got very little. I buy things for Christmas throughout the year, when I hit good sales, and most of the Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal were pricier than what I paid earlier in the year.
