What do you think was the greatest classic TV Disappointment of 2017 IYHO? For me, it was that there weren't more Hanna Barbara releases this year. There was something about a HB Silver or Diamond Jubilee collection and somehow that ball's been dropped, there should have been more releases before 2017 was out

The biggest disappointments for me, were no single-sided reissues of the problematic domestic DVD-18 discs of Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season 1 and Dragnet (1967): Season 1, as well as no Rifleman: Season 4, Vol. 2 release through Walmart and subsequent further vendors (Amazon, etc). The lack of The Avengers: Season 4 (the b&w "Emma Peel" episodes), remastered, on domestic Blu-ray, was also a disappointment, after the Blu release of the color Season 5 from Lionsgate, a couple of years ago.

Other than that, just the continued stalling of Zane Grey Theater and One Step Beyond (official release), as well as no word on some prime grail shows, like T.H.E. Cat, Panic!, Way Out, Suspicion, Bus Stop, 12 O'Clock High: Season 1 and Terriers, although I did get a decent bunch of grails in 2017 already, namely Coronet Blue, The Westerner, Decoy, The Immortal and Longstreet (plus solid word of remastered The Outer Limits on Blu in 2018), so that mitigates things quite a bit.

As far as current shows on disc go, the one big disappointment was Fargo: Season 3 getting a DVD-only release, even though the first two seasons were on Blu, and the 4th season is apparently years away from being produced and aired.

Hopefully the remaining Universal flipper sets will eventually be re-released as single-sided discs sets, such as AHP season 1, Quncy season 2, McCloud season 2, Las Vegas seasons 1 and 2, etc ....

(Dragnet 1967 season 1 is being re-released on Feb 13, 2018 as a 3-disc set).

Nice! After your reply, I checked in the "Universal Studios & Warner Brothers Reissued DVD Sets" thread, and saw your Nov 26th post about it and the Amazon link to it. I've checked that thread before, every so often, but the Dragnet news flew under my radar... thanks much for the heads-up!

1. No classic Hanna Barbara releases from WA
2.) The ongoing Warner Detective show saga.
3.) Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction still stalled by CBS/Paramount
4.) No release of The High Chaparel from CBS despite the show being remastered back in 2016.

Constantly Being Stalled living up to their moniker. No news on The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Gunsmoke, or Bonanza. On the western front, come on, you're not that far from finishing them up!

No news on B.J. and the Bear or The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo from Universal. In a similar vein, Warner Archive still keeps dropping the ball on Enos.

And, last but certainly not least, the debacle of VEI/CBS handling Barnaby Jones in the manner they did.

My hope is that this year Universal, does quality scans of all Alfred Hitchcock presents and offers it for blu either via Universal or Mill Creek
As for the B/W Emma Peel episodes, and the follow on season both have been released in the UK, so i wonder what the hold up is here, Has to be Lionsgate, buyt they finished up Little House, so there is hope that they will address this again.

The Deep Space 9 and Voyager bluuuuuuuuuesss... not the good blues.

Waiting on those as well my friend.

Now, on to something different, when, if ever, is Season 2 of Space:1999 on blu ever going to get released ?

The biggest disappointment for me is the disappearance of TV shows in the blu ray format in the USA. This goes for current shows, (Hello Fox), and classic shows that get a release in Europe and Australia. I quit buying Archer and Modern Family when the went DVD only. Some Fox shows (American Dad, Bob's Burgers) now only get the MOD treatment. Fabulous Films in the UK have released many 70's and 80's Universal shows on blu ray, with many more announced for 2018. I have purchased a few favorites, but it's odd that the studio that produced these shows can't be bothered to release them in their own country.

Correction: Biggest disappointment Disney/Marvel TV/ABC unwilling to release either Agent Carter Season 2 and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Season 3 in the United States on any format other than streaming or digital download.

Note to anyone in the media industry, unless you are located in a large metro area with really good internet, this option sucks! for everyone else you understand the frustration of buffering.

A physical release is required for most of the country not interested in watching a program on a damn phone!

Due to sales, I take it?

Ben:

This answer is directly from Shout Factory's website: "We're still evaluating sales of season one on this one. Compared to other classic TV of the era, this sold well, but because we had to do new film transfers for all of the episodes, this was a much more expensive project than usual. Nothing we can announce about seasons 2, 3, and 4, at least not at this time."

Lack of:
1. further season releases of The Defenders
2. a reissue of Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season One on single-sided discs
3. any word of an Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season Seven release
4. any word of an Alfred Hitchcock Hour release
5. any word on a Region 1 release of 39-disc The Complete Avengers 50th Anniversary Edition DVD set that was released in Region 2

The biggest disappointment for me is the disappearance of TV shows in the blu ray format in the USA.

(On a huge offtopic tangent).
(This may sound really dumb).

I've been using this ^ as a "guide" to severly restrict my OCD compulsive collecting of dvds/blurays. Basically using a simple "no bluray = no sale" rule, essentially eliminates most purchases of current tv shows on dvd/bluray.

This doesn't work as well for movies, since many movies are released on both dvd and bluray (or 4Kbluray). Though more recenlty I've been using a "no 4Kbluray = no sale" rule to fool myself into NOT buying some crappy newer movies on dvd/bluray. (In the end I'll probably never buy a 4Kbluray player, as paradoxical this may sound).

With all that being said, I still have a weakness for older (or classic) tv shows on dvd. (Less so for older movies).

Any time a show wound up being released by VEI.

Speaking of VEI, I had ordered Angie for my friend for Christmas, only to have to return the damn thing due to discs being dislodged and for the money i spent on it, you'd think better care would have been taken into consideration, but guess not so had to send it back for a full refund via Amazon.
