Not that I am qualified to really do a DVD review..
I just went and spent my Best Buy gift certificate and picked up BTILC SE. (just had to use an acronym since they are so popular on this forum [IMG])
I sat down and listened to most of the commentary with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell. It doesn't lend a lot of insight on the making of the film... but it definitely reveals the relationship between Russell & Carpenter. (ie: Carpenter asks Kurt about his kids hockey games and guitar lessons) I found it interesting.
It's probably not the best conversion to DVD but I am glad I bought it. It's one of my all time favorite movies.
    There's my $.02

Yup, this film isn't for everyone. But if you're a fan of the film, you are going to love the disc Fox has put together for you.
One thing I like to do: if you listen to the commentary, Carpenter and Russell say that beginning monologue by Egg Shen was never supposed to be there, but a studio exec made them put it in there to make Russell more "heroic."
Well Fox has made Chapter 2 start right after the monologue and into the title credits with Jack talking in the truck. Now when I show it, I always just skip to that chapter, as I believe that is where the movie should start. [IMG]

I consider it one of the definitve films of my 80s youth. I agree that some don't "get" this film but I loved it. I look forward to picking up the SE DVD release (it's on my list!).

I got this for Christmas and I enjoyed it. It's the first martial arts flick I can make that claim about. The extras are good, too.

    Sincerely,

John "I have a cousin-in-law who looks like Kim Catrall does in this movie" Kilduff

The LD commentary is indeed fantastic -- John and Kurt riff off of one another as usual, and overall you get more insight into the film than on Big Trouble. They tell quite a few great stories!

My brother recently bought this movie and he yelled at me because I told him I don't remember anything from the movie except that Acclaim probobly got the character Raiden from this movie.

This movie's audio is awesome too. I also enjoyed the plot.

    Good combination!

Big Trouble is also one of my favorites also, but I have a question.

In the commentary, Kurt Russell is telling John about an actress he recently worked with (and wouldn't name) that he didnt care for. I think he called her unprofessional or something to that effect, saying she had trouble focusing and remembering her lines, etc. Anyone know to whom he is referring?

I also enjoyed the movie. Really well done movie, still kinda underrated. A very funny film that really doesn't seem dated.

My favorite part of the ESCAPE commentary was when Kurt began talking about Adrienne Barbeau and the uncomfortable reaction from Carpenter! [IMG]

I've always loved the scene where Kurt gets the big kiss before the final battle scene. I laugh every time! [IMG]

Here's hoping that The Fog gets a solid DVD as well. We JC fans have been spoiled so far!

God, I remember seeing this in the theater as a kid. What a load of fun. I love Carpenter/Russell at work, but was never a big fan of the Escape movies.

Everytime I watch Vampires I think... Why didn't they just pay Kurt Russell to do this? Wood's character might as well have been named Jack Plisken or Snake Burton. Movie would have been better -- not that it was pile of crap or anything.
