    Hey everybody!

I'm new to all this, and I am looking to spend around $2000 on a 48-53 in. rear projection HD television...I've researched a bit and read many reviews on the different brands, but I'm still overwhelmed by all the choices. I've looked at the Panasonic WX53 and Hitachi 51F500, and maybe looking at Mitsubishi, and I've heard tons of differing opinions about each of them. Picture quality is really important; viewing area will be arounf 11' away from the TV, and the whole family will use it PS2, DVDs, kid movies). I will be hooked up to an HD receiver on the Dish Network.

I also want to install a small surround sound system for my TV (my basement is only 700 sq ft), any recommendations for that also?

Thanks for any help you guys can give!!!

Welcome to HTF, Ryan in Denver. For brand-specific recommendations about specific gear you should post in the related area. Basics is for asking about the essentials ("What's the difference between DLP and LCD?," etc.). JB

    HI Ryan,

I think the Pioneer SD-533HD5 is a very good buy

I saw the 64 inch version at Costco and it looked amazing even in a not so good setting

I think the 53 inch is priced around $1700

The 64 was $2000 at Costco

Pioneer's seem to be thought of very highly at most home theater forums

I have one that is about 8 years old and it still looks good
