Technically true for the LDS church. But, it would still be a PR nightmare for them because of the perceived double standard.

For the Hendricksen's it is still very much a symbol that their faith is justified by a greater body.

Of course, it's silly that either of those things would matter in the big picture. Faith should be faith without having to justify it to anyone or anything else.

Yes, in fact I've commented on this before. It is so ironic that most people, myself included, had always thought of Utah as a big polygamy state. Yet in their efforts to denounce and deny the practices from the Mormons, they have gone way overboard in the other direction, as I believe they are one of the few states that have laws that make it illegal to live as a married couple without the sanction of a legal marriage. We all know every state it is illegal to actually get married to more than one woman. But Utah goes a step further and states that with or without a legal marriage certificate, it is illegal to live as man and woman in anything beyond one man and one woman.

Yeah, I don't know how they do it, but one episode to the next, the level of conflict is unreal. This season has been particularly great. I don't think I have had one minute when I wasn't on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.

Any ideas on that last scene? I hope they start from that point, next week, and show us more of what Bill was seeing in the end at the barn.

Anybody care to explain what all the rabble was concerning with the LDS and this episode? Were we heathens not supposed to see what a Celestial room is? (Because, honestly, it looks a lot like an all-white version of several sitting rooms at the Palace of Versailles.)

HBO’s Big Love To Show Mormon Temple Ceremony | Friendly Atheist by Hemant Mehta

It has become clear that this season has come up with a situation that is "Ripped from the Headlines". Discussing this with a friend last night, she pointed out the obvious. Alby IS Mark Hoffman. Mark Hoffman, as I referenced earlier in the thread, was the man who tried to blackmail the church selling them the "Salamander Letter" and similar documents.

Alby revealed this week he's sold numerous documents to the church, and managed to work his way all the way up to the president for his abiity to get the documents. It sounds far to familiar; Hoffman in the wings. I think we're in for a reveal where they find out Alby is forging these documents.

The Celestial Room itself really isn't what the hubbub is about. It is essentially a room to sit and reflect in that represents heaven. It's importance comes from the ceremony participated in beforehand, which having not seen the episode, I'm unsure of how much they depicted.

They only depicted a slice of the ceremony, and it was relevant to the character.

I'm glad Bill FINALLY starts his own church. I thought that would have happened a couple seasons ago. He really pulled off a nice "Godfather" end there - tying up many loose ends. And coming out better off than he's been in a while.

It was time for Roman to go, and he passes well as a favorite, but completed, villain. I look forward to all our 'new' villains: his widow, Alby, and the truly new JJ.

And hooray for Margene! No, she won't get rich doing that crap (or maybe she will?), but she will make some money she has proven she's NOT just a little girl anymore. I'm glad she's not depressed. I was worried for a sec.

This has turned into a truly fine show. Solidly written and really well performed. I think HBO has signed 2 more seasons, so I'm looking forward to the further adventures.

If they're doing 2 more seasons, then I would sure like to know why they cut this one down to 10 episodes from the usual 12. (Which used to be 13 back in the early days of THE SOPRANOS and SIX FEET UNDER). If this keeps up we'll wind up with 3 episode seasons. :frowning:

Maybe I missed her...but was Teeny present there at the end when Bill formed his church?

HBO says it is scheduling, as several of the actors had films in production and it was what they could get done; the same will be true next season, which is also slated for 10 eps.

Rather then lose some of the actors, they decided to shorten the season and work around it. This was especially true of the girl, who had four films last year (Mamma Mia, Travelling Pants 2, etc.)

I like how HBO thinks outside the box to make things happen rather than destroying the potential for good art trying to stick to antiquated models of doing business. With the Sopranos, as much as I missed the show during the long delays, I appreciated them giving Chase reasonable time to put together what he wanted to put together rather than saying, "Well if you can't deliver, forget it then." I'm quite happy with 10 good episodes per season rather than 12 or 13 of a show that loses its heart.

Basically they showed the "secret handshake" ceremony to enter the Celestial room. (I didn't think this rather mundane ritual was the big secret, but I guess it was.)

This was a good season and really this last episode could have served as a series finale, I'm not sure what more they can really explore on the show.

I agree. Given the cat-n-mouse casino business issues with Ted are finally resolved, Nicki is back together with her daughter, the Hendrickson's church has been formed, Roman is not going to be around to start fighting with Alby... all the other loose ends seem unimportant really. Though, they could bring Hollis and Selma back in any capacity and I would be content; I just love those two characters. I have little interest in JJ and I am unsure Alby can carry two more seasons as the main villian.

I'll miss Roman though. Although he was definitely a character you dislike, Harry Dean Stanton did a superb job bringing that character to life.

I've always expected that the show will ultimately end with Bill being restored to his grandfather's role as the "true prophet" of the Juniper Creek compound. I bet we'll see Bill continue to struggle with life in the open, and realize that he can never truly make it work.

For me this show has continued to improve over it's three seasons, and considering that it's still on the upswing, in terms of well-executed storytelling, I'm glad to know it's been renewed for two more seasons.
