Many early PAL discs used MPEG Multichannel. I used to have several of these discs, but now have only two: Total Recall (2.0, CBR ~200kbps) and Last Man Standing (5.1, VBR ~300-450kbps). An interesting format in that it could be VBR or CBR, unlike Dolby Digital and DTS which are both CBR formats.

Even though it's essentially dead on DVD, as it's one of PAL DVD's mandated standard audio formats (along with PCM and Dolby Digital), many PAL DVD players still carry MPEG Multichannel decoders along with the usual Dolby Digital and DTS. Many receivers from Sony, Pioneer, Denon etc. sold in Europe and the Pacific Rim also carried the decoding hardware needed until very recently.
