According to the February 25th edition of MusicTAP, the 2003 release "Dangerously In Love" by Beyonce will hit stores on April 6 as a multi-channel hybrid SACD.

In the same edition, it was announced that Britney Spears' "In The Zone" will be released on DVD-A on April 20.

Cool, the Beyonce album is a very good piece of pop.

And Britney's latest album is a very good peice of... you figure it out... [IMG]

IMHO its like they just threw something together to get another britney album out. Each release from her has been getting worse and worse... Then again, they're weren't great to begin with...

That may very well be true but a hi-res Britney release (and Beyonce) will help both formats grow. This is exactly what needs to be done. Now if only they'd release a lot more new release rock albums in hi-res.

Day-and-date releases would help even more.

Very good point John. Believe me, I'd much rather have Dire Straits or something in DVD-A but this is the kind of exposure hi-res needs.

Finally! The record companies have figured out that putting current pop music on Hi-Rez will make the format sell better! I definitely don't plan on buying either one of these releases, because I don't like Britney and Beyonce. But still, it's great for the industry.

With the re-release of the Titanic soundtrack on hybrid SACD and the upcoming release of the Beyonce album on hybrid SACD, and now Sony's announcement of a whole bunch of new SACD-capable components, I wonder what's Sony's grand vision?

WILL this boost the format? I'm just guessing here, but it seems to me that the vast majority of Britney and Beyonce fans don't care much about music fidelity. Wouldn't they be just as happy with a cheap, low-rez download? Will these things sell?

It will boost the format, IF AND ONLY IF they market the discs correctly.

Is the Britney album still coming to DVD-A? All I can find at amazon is a DVD-V being released on April 6 In the Zone .

Also on the slate is a Britney Spears DVD-Audio version of In The Zone for May 18 from Jive Records.

Actually, I don't really share the optimism in seeing how these releases will boost hi-rez formats. Do you see fourteen-year old girls trolling the SACD/DVD-Audio sections of your music stores? I certainly don't. I just don't see the kids sitting around listening to their iPODS, and wishing 'In The Zone' was a higher resolution. The sonic qualities of each of these artists' catalogs is neither's primary concern, nor of their fans. IMO.[IMG]

According to High Fidelity Review, the Beyonce release will been exclusive to Europe.

    Thanks, John....for the update.

So now Mike can add this title for his search for import SACDs.

Manufactures should pressure imprints to release only hybrid disc. EMI – Virgin I’m talking to you about SACD and Janet’s catalog: 93’s janet. 97’s The Velvet Rope 01’s All For You and the recently debuting at number 2” 04’s Damita Jo.
